Chris is a Senior News Writer for Collider. He can be found in an IMAX screen, with his eyes watering and his ears bleeding for his own pleasure. He joined the news team in 2022 and accidentally fell upwards into a senior position despite his best efforts.

For reasons unknown, he enjoys analyzing box office receipts, giant sharks, and has become known as the go-to man for all things BoschMission: Impossible and Christopher Nolan in Collider's news division. Recently, he found himself yeehawing along to the Dutton saga on the Yellowstone Ranch.

He is proficient in sarcasm, wit, Photoshop and working unfeasibly long hours. Amongst his passions sit the likes of the history of the Walt Disney Company, the construction of theme parks, steam trains and binge-watching Gilmore Girls with a coffee that is just hot enough to scald him.

His obsession with the Apple TV+ series Silo is the subject of mockery within the Senior News channel, where his feelings about Taylor Sheridan's work are enough to make his fellow writers roll their eyes.

Taylor Sheridan’s TV empire is now so big that every new release arrives with a built-in question: Is this just another extension of the brand, or is it actually going to break through on its own? That question felt especially fair with The Madison, a shorter, more intimate-looking drama that was not leaning as heavily on the ranch-war chaos people associate with Yellowstone. But if the early streaming picture is any indication, audiences did not need much convincing.

After debuting on Paramount+ on March 14, The Madison shot straight to No. 1 overall on Paramount+ in the United States by March 16, according to FlixPatrol’s daily chart. That put it ahead of Marshals, Sheriff Country, Landman, and the rest of the service’s current lineup, which is a pretty strong opening statement for a brand-new Sheridan series. Created by Sheridan, The Madison stars Michelle Pfeiffer as Stacy Clyburn and Kurt Russell as Preston Clyburn, a wealthy New York couple who relocate to Montana’s Madison River Valley after a family tragedy. Paramount+ has described it as a story about grief, healing, and human connection, set between the emotional pull of Manhattan and the vastness of Montana.

Alongside Pfeiffer and Russell, the cast of The Madison includes Patrick J. Adams as Russell McIntosh, Elle Chapman as Paige McIntosh, Matthew Fox as Paul Clyburn, Beau Garrett as Abigail Reese, Amiah Miller as Bridgette Reese, Ben Schnetzer as Van Davis, Kevin Zegers as Cade Harris, Rebecca Spence as Liliana Weeks, Alaina Pollack as Macy, Danielle Vasinova as Kestrel Harris, and Will Arnett as Dr. Phil Yorn.

Is 'The Madison' Worth Watching?

Collider’s review stated that The Madison may come from the creator of some of television’s most intense modern dramas, but writer Aidan Kelley felt that Sheridan’s newest series is far more reflective and emotionally driven than fans might expect. Known for the brutal conflicts and morally complex characters of Yellowstone, Tulsa King, and Mayor of Kingstown, Sheridan shifts gears with a story that trades violence and political intrigue for a deeply personal exploration of grief and family. Kelley wrote:

"Sheridan has historically found tremendous success by telling stories that appeal to a wide variety of age groups, geographic regions (mainly in the U.S.), and political backgrounds. The Madison may have a cowboy or two and take place in Montana, but it's Sheridan's biggest step out of his comfort zone yet. Because of that, the show undoubtedly isn't going to appeal to everyone, but if you're willing to get past a slower pace in the earliest episodes and see this gripping character drama through, then The Madison is a must-watch."

The Madison is streaming now on Paramount+.
