Makuochi Echebiri is a News Writer for Collider.  He has been interested in creative writing from as far back as high school, and he would consume pretty much anything that’s film or TV. However, his truest love lies in the presence of historical epics and thrillers.

Lured by the brilliance of Middle Earth from an early age both in print and on screen, his palate has since expanded to other realms including Westeros, Kattegat among others. He also possesses a great appetite for the stories that emanate from the vastness of space. Even though he is no Avenger.

Obsessed with storytelling and having works of his own that have yet to make it to print, he is content to use that ability to communicate to as many as are reachable. In his spare time, he looks out for avenues where he can aid people aside from his plans to reign over this earthly realm. Yes…you heard that first here.

When it comes to choosing something worthwhile to watch, you can rarely go wrong with a project from Taylor Sheridan. Since making his screenwriting breakthrough with Sicario, Sheridan has built a solid reputation for delivering high-quality stories across both film and television. While we have streaming to thank for expanding his empire and making his works readily accessible, Sheridan has crafted some true modern classics that are worthy of preservation in the more reliable format that is physical media. Now, another one of his celebrated projects is set to receive the crisp physical upgrade it deserves.

After announcing his arrival with Sicario, Sheridan quickly proved the breakout hit was no fluke by following it up with the even more widely acclaimed Hell or High Water — the second entry in his celebrated American Frontier trilogy. The project, brought to life by a brilliant ensemble, including Chris Pine, Ben Foster, and Jeff Bridges, firmly established Sheridan as a genius of neo-Western storytelling. The film earned four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, but one of its most notable honors came when the American Film Institute named it among the year’s best films.

Widely praised as an instant classic, Hell or High Water has often been credited with helping revitalize the modern Western. The film remains one of Sheridan’s defining achievements and, like the other entries in his American Frontier trilogy, stands as the kind of cinematic work many fans consider worthy of long-term preservation on physical media. Given its stature, the film previously received a 4K disc release, but collectors will soon have another chance to add it to their shelves as StudioCanal has announced a new 4K Blu-ray edition of the acclaimed thriller, scheduled to arrive on May 18.

Because today is Friday the 13th, let's march our way through the iconic slasher franchise. Ch-ch-ch-ch. Ha-ha-ha-ha.

What Is 'Hell or High Water' About?

In Hell or High Water, Texas brothers Toby and Tanner, played by Chris Pine and Ben Foster, respectively, reunite after years of separation to take matters into their own hands. Their family land is under threat of foreclosure, and in a desperate bid to save it, they begin robbing local bank branches. While vengeance appears within their grasp, their actions quickly attract the attention of Texas Ranger Marcus (Jeff Bridges), who is determined to track the brothers down during what he hopes will be his final grand pursuit before retirement. As Toby and Tanner orchestrate one last high-stakes bank heist to complete their plan, the brothers and the Ranger hurtle toward a tense confrontation, culminating in a dramatic showdown that pits the values of the Old and New West.

As usual, the new Blu-ray release will come with a slew of special features and technical specs, including several featurettes taking the audience closer to the production process, a deep dive into the key characters, an interview and Q&A session with the film's director, David Mackenzie, as well as clips of the movie's Red Carpet premiere.

Hell or High Water 4K Blu-ray will arrive on shelves on May 18.
