Taylor Sheridan and his Yellowstone franchise are having a battle in the world of streaming.

According to FlixPatrol, Yellowstone is now surpassing Sheridan's latest spinoff series, Marshals, as the original drama is surging at #3 while the 2026 series is holding the #4 position. This comes only ten days after the Luke Grimes-starring show made its premiere on CBS.

The Marshals TV show serves as an official sequel to Yellowstone, continuing the arc of Kayce Dutton. The CBS drama also stars Logan Marshall-Green, Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos, and Tatanka Means.

It makes a lot of sense for the Yellowstone series to see a surge after the franchise expanded. After the airing of Marshals episode 1, longtime viewers of Sheridan's universe are likely driven to revisit the previous show for nostalgia's sake.

However, the surge of the Kevin Costner-starring series is most likely also related to new viewers, too. They could be wanting to explore the broader scope of the Yellowstone brand if they tuned in for Marshals as their first experience of Sheridan's story.

Marshals is, however, off to a bad start, reception-wide, as it is sitting on 47% in the Critics' Score on Rotten Tomatoes, while holding a 33% rating on the Popcornmeter. Given that only two episodes have aired so far, the number is subject to change, as critics and audience members' consensus could bring the ratings up if the quality improves.

Yellowstone is streaming on Paramount+, while new episodes of Marshals airs on Sundays on CBS.
