Makuochi Echebiri is a News Writer for Collider.  He has been interested in creative writing from as far back as high school, and he would consume pretty much anything that’s film or TV. However, his truest love lies in the presence of historical epics and thrillers.

Lured by the brilliance of Middle Earth from an early age both in print and on screen, his palate has since expanded to other realms including Westeros, Kattegat among others. He also possesses a great appetite for the stories that emanate from the vastness of space. Even though he is no Avenger.

Obsessed with storytelling and having works of his own that have yet to make it to print, he is content to use that ability to communicate to as many as are reachable. In his spare time, he looks out for avenues where he can aid people aside from his plans to reign over this earthly realm. Yes…you heard that first here.

The works of celebrated American author Tom Clancy have long served as prime material for Hollywood adaptations. Jack Ryan, the brilliant CIA analyst, has become Clancy’s most recognizable on-screen character. The latest incarnation, portrayed by John Krasinski, appeared in Jack Ryan, which ran for four seasons on Prime Video before concluding in 2023. Prime Video recently confirmed a release window for a sequel film set in the same universe, bringing audiences back into the world of international espionage. Ahead of that highly anticipated return, another adaptation of Clancy’s work has quietly resurfaced on a free streamer.

Fresh off his work on the acclaimed American Frontier trilogy, neo-Western maestro Taylor Sheridan took a stab at the world of Tom Clancy. Alongside screenwriter Will Staples, Sheridan adapted Clancy’s 1993 novel Without Remorse into a feature film. Hollywood had been trying to bring the book to the screen for years, but the project lingered in development hell for decades. With a reported production budget exceeding $65 million, the film arrived with lofty ambitions, positioning itself as the launchpad for a new franchise centered on the origin story of elite black-ops operative John Clark, portrayed by Michael B. Jordan.

Despite the high-profile talent behind it, Without Remorse struggled to connect with both critics and longtime fans of Tom Clancy’s work. While Jordan earned praise for his intense portrayal of the battle-hardened Navy SEAL, the film drew heavy criticism for straying significantly from its source material. Those flaws notwithstanding, the movie has found new life on streaming. Without Remorse has been available in the U.S. on platforms like Prime Video and MGM+, but its recent arrival on Tubi at the start of March sparked a surge in viewership. The action thriller has quickly climbed the platform’s charts, becoming the second most-watched movie on the free streaming service.

What's Next For Taylor Sheridan?

Since writing Without Remorse, Sheridan has gone on to build one of television’s most formidable creative empires at Paramount Global. The prolific writer-producer helped turn the studio into a powerhouse for modern Western dramas with a slate of hit series. However, his highly successful partnership with Paramount took a major turn last year when Sheridan signed a massive five-year deal reportedly worth $1 billion with NBCUniversal. Despite the new agreement, Sheridan still has contractual commitments with Paramount that extend through 2028, meaning several of his existing shows will continue under the studio before he exits.

Among those ongoing titles are the expanding Yellowstone universe, including the recently premiered sequel series Marshals, as well as the upcoming The Madison and Dutton Ranch. Sheridan is also expected to wrap up several of his other Paramount hits, including the final seasons of Landman, Tulsa King, Lioness, and Mayor of Kingstown, the latter of which is set to conclude with its upcoming fifth season.

Stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates and news on Sheridan’s next wave of projects.
