Taylor Sheridan fans were dealt a devastating blow over the weekend when Prime Video removed one of his most underrated neo-Westerns, Sicario: Day of the Soldado. The film had previously been one of Prime Video’s biggest success stories of the year thus far, and fans aren’t quite ready to say goodbye to its thrilling action sequences. At the time of writing, Sicario: Day of the Soldado has surged into the VOD top 10 in several countries around the world. The film still does not have a new streaming home after it left Prime Video a few days ago, though.
Sicario 2 has plenty of great moments, but the film isn’t looked at in the same light as its predecessor. The first Sicario movie, which is currently streaming on Peacock, earned much better scores of 91% from critics and 85% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Both films were successful at the box office, but Sicario is widely viewed as not only a better film but also one of the greatest neo-Western thrillers ever made. Denis Villeneuve, famed for his work directing the Dune movies, helmed the first Sicario. He handed off directorial control to Stefano Sollima for the 2018 sequel.
The most glaring problem with Sicario: Day of the Soldado is that it’s a sequel that Sheridan never wanted to make. In the years away from the film, he has confirmed that he never intended to write a sequel to Sicario, but it wasn’t until the studio asked him to do so due to the success of the first film that he reluctantly agreed. The studio also asked to be more involved in the writing of Sicario 2, but Sheridan declined, telling them he would turn in his script on his time.
When Does Taylor Sheridan’s Next Movie Come Out?
Taylor Sheridan has a few movies he’s working on, but only one with an official release date. Taylor Sheridan is writing the script for F.A.S.T., a new neo-Western being reported as a spiritual successor to Sicario. Plot specifics about the film are being kept under wraps, but it will reportedly follow a former U.S. Special Forces officer who works with the DEA to take down corrupt drug deals in the CIA. The film stars Brandon Sklenar and Jason Clarke, and it will be released in theaters on April 23, 2027.
