How does the white-knuckle medical drama of “The Pitt” feel to the people living it in real time? According to star Taylor Dearden, it might be just as stressful to make as it is to watch.
“We have the same amount of anxiety as people feel watching it,” Dearden said on the blue carpet before the 41st Film Independent Spirit Awards, where she was nominated for Best Supporting Performance in a New Scripted Series.
The actress joined IndieWire and Lavazza for a Coffee Break with filmmaker and content creator Reagan Yorke. She opened up about the show’s distinctly hectic shooting process that produces the chaos we love to watch onscreen.
“I feel like I’m OG, so we all didn’t know anything,” she said when asked what fans might not know about making the show. “I feel like the speed of how we move, it can be daunting for sure. And there’s a lot of times where you have a bunch of scenes during the day, but no one told you that they decided to link them all. So in your head you’re like ‘I’ll go over that scene after lunch’ and then it’s like ‘No, it’s all at once, go!’”
Dearden made it clear that the taxing process has made her a better performer and strengthened her ability to believe in herself.
“I think because it goes so fast, I distrusted that I could do it right away,” she said. “There was a lot of hesitation. When I finally let go of that and realized ‘Oh, it’s coming to us,’ that was the best.”
