Sydney Sweeney has emerged as one of Hollywood's biggest stars, due to her acclaimed performances and appearances in several advertising campaigns that have sparked controversy. She broke out in the HBO shows Euphoria (2019–2026) and The White Lotus season 1 (2021), earning Emmy nominations for both. On the big screen, Sweeney has starred in box-office hits like the rom-com Anyone But You (2023) and the chilling horror movie Immaculate (2024).
But her biggest box-office hit is The Housemaid. Based on the 2022 novel by Freida McFadden, the 2025 thriller stars Sydney Sweeney as a young woman with a troubled past who becomes a live-in housemaid for a wealthy family whose household harbors dark secrets. The cast also includes Oscar nominee Amanda Seyfried (Mank) and Brandon Sklenar (1923, It Ends With Us).
Sydney Sweeney's The Housemaid Can't Be Stopped On Streaming
Nine months after its theatrical release, The Housemaid is on both Amazon and the Apple TV Store's top movies in the United States for today, October 6. It currently ranks No. 15 on Amazon's chart, where it has been for a total of 243 days, and No. 10 on Apple's, where it has been for the past 184 days.
The Housemaid started streaming on Starz this past April (where it is no longer available) and broke records for the platform as its best-performing film of all time. Following that, it has been performing incredibly well on VOD – including Amazon, the Apple TV Store, and the Google Play Store.
The Housemaid is available to rent or buy from $5.99, but for those unwilling to pay that price, it is coming to HBO Max on October 9. Before becoming a streaming sensation, The Housemaid became a massive box office hit, grossing over $400 million worldwide against its $35 million budget.

Sydney Sweeney reprises her role as Millie Calloway, who takes a new housekeeping job for another wealthy family hiding a dark secret. Michele Morrone also returns as Enzo Accardi, an Italian groundskeeper and Millie's love interest. The sequel's synopsis reads:
In The Housemaid’s Secret, Millie returns, taking a job keeping house for a woman she’s never allowed to see, only to discover the truth behind the locked door that threatens to expose secrets far darker than her own.
New cast members and characters include Kirsten Dunst as Wendy Garrick, a mysterious new employer whom Millie is strictly forbidden from seeing, Paul Anthony Kelly as Douglas Garrick, Wendy's tech billionaire husband who hires Millie, and Brittany Snow as Marybeth Simonds, an unassuming receptionist working at his company.
