Britta DeVore is a Senior Author for Collider who has been known to dabble with Reality News as well.
Have you seen stories about 'Chucky,' 'Scream,' 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer,' 'The Boys,' 'Vanderpump Rules,' or any of 'The Real Housewives' franchises? That's probably a Britta DeVore-curated piece of art, and it sounds like you have great taste.
When she isn't sitting behind her laptop bringing readers her hot takes on upcoming projects or keeping the dream alive in the Senior News team, Britta can usually be found outside hiking or inside behind her drum set. She currently plays in two bands, Kid Midnight and Watergate, both based in Brooklyn. An obsessive traveler, Britta loves long road trips to the South West and has a soft spot in her heart for canyons, rivers, and forests.
She also has a tiny cat named Athena that she loves more than anything else in the world and is always happy for new brewery recs.
“I can save them” mentality can lead to unfortunate endings, but filmmaker Emma Higgins is raising the stakes and cranking the danger all the way up to 10 with her upcoming film, Sweetness. Slated for a digital and on-demand arrival on February 13, the movie hinges itself on works like Stephen King and Rob Reiner’s Misery and adds a hefty dose of teenage celebrity obsession. Today, in support of our special screening of the film, which will feature a special Q&A with Higgins, Collider is excited to exclusively share one of the movie’s pivotal moments that sets it off on a course of crazed obsession masked as help. Led by standout performances from Kate Hallett (Women Talking), Herman Tømmeraas (Ragnarok), and Aya Furukawa (The Midnight Club), the horror thriller makes for the perfect Valentine’s Day watch.
Our sneak peek picks up just as teenage fans Rylee (Hallett) and Sidney (Furukawa) join thousands of other attendees as they pour out into the halls of a stadium following the concert of their favorite musician, Payton Adler (Tømmeraas). While the latter is ready to take off, the former insists that they try to meet their idol and heads out without her friend. After cruising by the merch table, Rylee spots a cracked door and, upon further inspection, sees Payton inside, locked in a tense conversation. After being spotted by the singer’s manager, Rylee takes off, and our clip cuts out.
While we don’t see the fallout of Rylee’s exploration in our sneak peek, a previously released trailer fills in some of the blanks for what’s about to happen next. We know that the musician and his number one fan will cross paths after he hits her with his car. Luckily, the teenager isn’t killed by the accident and instead strikes up a friendship with her pop star crush. But things take a turn after she learns that Payton is struggling with a crippling addiction that threatens to tear his life apart. Taking matters into her own hands, Rylee kidnaps the singer and holds him captive in her home in hopes of leading him on a path towards sobriety.
