Survivor's Kyle Fraser Details Argument With Jeff Probst Over Injury

Survivor’s Colby Donaldson Admits He Almost Backed Out of Season 50

Kyle Fraser wanted to play through the pain.

After the Survivor season 48 winner was removed from the show’s all-star 50th season due to an ACL injury, he admitted that he went toe-to-toe with host Jeff Probst to try to keep his spot.

“I would’ve stayed,” Kyle admitted in an interview with Entertainment Weekly published Feb. 26. “I argued with them for quite some time. Jeff will tell you. I mean, we argued for a long time. I told him I'm a lawyer, I'd sign a waiver. I want to stay out there because I think my tribe was definitely going to keep me.”

Kyle’s injury occurred during the immunity challenge while he was helping fellow tribe member Colby Donaldson reach the top of a structure, before falling himself and suffering what first was thought to be an ankle injury. However, on day four of the contest, Dr. Joe did an exam, confirming he could have long-term damage to his achilles tendon if he didn’t exit the game and seek treatment.

But the 32-year-old wasn’t ready to go.

“I would've stayed and gone for as long as possible,” Kyle emphasized. “Even when the doctor was doing that test, I was trying to wiggle my toes because he was explaining the test to Jeff and I thought maybe that would get me out of it.”

When Jeff ultimately made the call to remove Kyle from the island, it brought the contestant to tears—but he has since come around on it being the right decision, adding, “It was clear that I needed to go.”

Indeed, following his departure from Fiji, Kyle had to undergo surgery to address his injury, and he’s still in recovery.

I'm running [as of] three weeks ago so we're still recovering,” Kyle shared during an interview on CBS Mornings Feb. 26. “So, we're on the up and up.”

Nevertheless, the entire ordeal has been “heartbreaking.”

“It’s tough, because two weeks earlier, I won,” he noted. “The whole world got to see me win a million dollars and then to tear your Achilles two weeks later—and know that I get pulled from the game only four days in.”

Despite the disappointing end for him, he was happy to return home to his wife Maggie Turner, whom he married in 2024, ahead of them welcoming a baby.

“My wife is happy,” he added. “Daughter coming in May!”
