The most powerful host in all of Venom's comic book lore is none other than DC's Superman. Superman's most dangerous enemies often challenge him through abilities specifically tailored to exploit his few vulnerabilities. For example, Metallo's Kryptonite-powered heart weakens Kal-El before he throws the first punch, Parasite drains Superman's solar energy through physical contact, and Mister Mxyzptlk uses his fifth-dimensional reality manipulation to transform reality and trap Superman in impossible scenarios. When enemies like Manchester Black, Brainiac, Black Adam, and Lex Luthor combine these weapons with sheer force, Superman can easily find himself outmatched.
Elsewhere in the omniverse, Marvel's symbiotes have bonded with an extraordinary range of hosts, but only a select few have unlocked the species' full potential. Eddie Brock used the Enigma Force to become the next King in Black after Knull, and Cletus Kasady's psychological compatibility with the Carnage symbiote produced one of Marvel's most dangerous killers. Other remarkable hosts include Mac Gargan, whose brutality amplified Venom's aggression; and Cosmic Ghost Rider, whose combination of symbiote biology, the Spirit of Vengeance, and the Power Cosmic created an unstoppable fusion.
Venom has parted ways with Mary Jane Watson to return to Eddie Brock in Marvel canon, but somewhere out there in the wider multiverse, Venom tested out a very different host, who briefly made Venom a more powerful character than most Avengers and Justice League heroes.
Superman Is The Most Powerful Host In Marvel's Symbiote History

Released on April 22, 2026, Marvel / DC: Spider-Man / Superman #1 presents the strongest symbiote host in Marvel history in the form of DC's Superman, who's chosen by Venom as his host in a rare clash between universes. Lex Luthor and Norman Osborn team up to trap both Spider-Man and Superman in an underground enclosure filled with Kryptonite, which weakens Superman and makes him vulnerable to the symbiote. The pairing combines two power sets that already rank among the most dangerous in their respective universes. Clark Kent already possesses extraordinary strength and near-invulnerability, and the Venom symbiote adds adaptive biomass, shape-shifting weapons, regenerative abilities, and an aggressive combat instinct.
Throughout Marvel comic history, Venom has bonded with exceptional figures that include Spider-Man, Eddie Brock, Flash Thompson, Wolverine, Deadpool, Hulk, Captain Marvel, and Doctor Strange, each host unlocking different aspects of the alien's potential. Although his stint as Venom's host is limited, Superman raises the bar dramatically with his Kryptonian physiology. If Venom were to stay bonded to an alien who can move celestial objects and battle gods one-on-one, threats like the Illuminated Knull and the Queen in Black would likely pale in comparison.
Venom Would Be A Great Permanent Addition To The DC Universe
The DC Universe Has Never Had Anything Resembling A Symbiote Invasion
DC features parasitic and body-altering organisms, including the alien Starro, the Reach scarabs that empower Blue Beetle, Black Mercy's hallucinatory plant, Mister Mind's psychic influence, and Eclipso's possession. However, none of them has all the defining characteristics of Marvel's symbiotes. The symbiotes form emotional bonds with their hosts and develop unique personalities. In the DC Universe, symbiotes would introduce a completely new dynamic to metahuman lore. Just like Venom started his journey by choosing Spider-Man as his first host, the symbiote could develop its whole personality and purpose by bonding to Superman, Booster Gold, or any of the Green Lanterns.
A full-scale symbiote invasion would also present the DC Universe with a global crisis unlike its traditional alien invasions. A symbiote bonded to Superman, Wonder Woman, or Shazam could alter the balance of power across the entire universe in a matter of hours. Extraterrestrial characters like Martian Manhunter and the Lantern Corps would likely have a long history with the symbiotes, or they could become lifelong adversaries of the Klyntar. What's almost certain is that Superman would likely be strong enough to resist the symbiotes' influence and help them find a place on Earth where they'd pose no threat, similarly to the way he often deals with Parasite.
