It's an age-old question at this point. What can Supergirl do that her famous cousin cannot? For decades, DC Comics has compared Kara and Clark Kent time and again, leaving Superman fans split between the pair. For many readers, they love the heroes best when they do their own thing, and DC Comics just gave those fans a gift, as Supergirl just subverted one of Superman's most obscure powers.

No, there is no Kryptonite involved in this case. The whole ordeal comes down to Supergirl & Blade #1 as the issue marks a major Marvel x DC collaboration. The special one-shot shows Supergirl and Blade as they take on a mission together, but things take a turn when Blade ends up biting Kara to save her life. This decision reveals a unique power that Supergirl wields, and it is one that Superman definitely doesn't have. We checked.

Supergirl Puts A Twist On Vampire Superman

In this new one-shot, the story closes as Supergirl reels from a virus she contracted from Mojo, the special's major villain. In order to save Kara from the virus, Blade is forced to bite her and infect Supergirl with his own unique virus. Blade's venom counteracts the virus created by Mojo, a feat that allows Kara to tap into her healing factor as a Kryptonian. However, we know for a fact that Superman does not have this ability.

After all, Superman has been bitten by a vampire before. Blade hasn't been able to taste the Man of Steel for himself, but Dracula got a sample in 2002. In Superman #180, Clark Kent heads to Europe with Lois Lane, and it is there the pair encounter Count Dracula. As it turns out, the vampire lord lured Superman's posse overseas so he could target the hero. After hypnotizing Superman, Count Dracula gets close enough to bite the Kryptonian, but things do not go well for the villain afterward.

Superman's powers come from the sun. We all know this, but Count Dracula did not factor that into his plan. After taking a taste of Superman's blood, he is thrown into a world of pain as he's reduced to ash. Dracula has an allergy to the sun, after all, and Clark's blood contains solar-powered cells. The man is literally fueled by the sun, so it was a terrible idea for Dracula to take a bite of Superman. Blade likely survived biting Supergirl because of his status as a Daywalker, but other vamps wouldn't have been so lucky.

The DC Universe Is No Stranger To Vampires

Superman's blood is strong enough to kill a vampire, and likely, the same goes for Supergirl so long as Blade isn't the bloodsucker in question. His unique status allows him better protection against the sun than his brethren have, after all. Thanks to Daywalker ability, Blade's vampire venom is able to save Supergirl's life, marketing yet another vamp encounter for DC fans to remember.

After all, the DC Universe does have its own vampires. The race first appeared in 1935, and vampires have been seen sporadically over the years. From Cain, the Sire of All Vampires to La Sangre and Baron Nightblood, the DC Universe is hardly lacking when it comes to vampires. The publisher even released an entire limited series titled DC vs Vampires, and it was there Supergirl had her first run-in with the supernatural race.

Set in a universe where vampires overtook Earth, Supergirl was left as the planet's last hero standing. The series follows Kara as she attempts to reclaim the Earth from the vampires and their leader, leaving her to face a number of her former allies who've been turned into vamps themselves. The vampires Supergirl faces in this limited series are nothing like Blade, and their venom most definitely didn't heal Kara or her Kryptonian relatives. So right now, it seems Supergirl's history with vampires is looking brighter than ever before.
