Additionally, the film is bringing in many other familiar Mario characters, such as Yoshi, Rosalina, and Birdo. However, a previously unannounced villain from the games may also be in the film, and it could answer the mystery behind a voice from the first trailer.
Wario May Have Been Spoiled For The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
The trailers for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie have established Bowser Jr. as a new villain, but there may be a potential team-up with another iconic Mario antagonist. According to IGN, a UK theater chain, Everyman, shared a description of the film that included Wario. Here's what the description said:
"After defeating Bowser and saving Brooklyn, Mario faces Wario and Bowser Jr.'s evil alliance. Now, alongside his friends and Yoshi, he must stop their plans for world domination."
Wario is a rival of Mario's, who first appeared in 1992's Super Mario Land 2: Golden Coins. Since then, the character has appeared as a playable character in games like Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. He also has his own games, including the Wario Land series and WarioWare games.
Wario's addition is somewhat surprising considering he isn't in the Super Mario Galaxy game, but the film is using elements from other Mario games. A team-up between Bowser Jr. and Wario could be interesting, as it isn't depicted much in the games. Also, if Wario is in the movie, perhaps Waluigi could make a surprise appearance.
Wario's Voice May Have Been Heard In The First Trailer
If Wario is in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the biggest question becomes, who will voice him? One popular fan-casting is Danny DeVito, who seemed open to the idea in an interview with The Movie Dweeb, saying that he is "up for a lot of things." Jack Black, who voices Bowser, suggested "Pedro Pascal" in an interview with GameSpot.
However, the voice of Wario may have already been revealed. In the first trailer, Rosalina is attacked by a Megaleg robot. The voice behind the robot says, "Princess Rosalina, you're coming with me," before Rosalina easily destroys it. The character with this voice hasn't been confirmed, but it sounds very similar to Brad Garrett.
Garrett is an actor and comedian who had his breakout role in the sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond. In addition to his stand-up comedy and live-action acting roles, he's also found success as a voice actor, voicing characters in many films, including Finding Nemo, Ratatouille, Tangled, Christopher Robin, and Elio.
In the games, Wario traditionally has a higher-pitched voice, but many of the other voice castings in Illumination's Mario movies don't perfectly match the voice from the game. Garrett would give Wario a deeper and more booming voice, which would be suitable for the character's potential role in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
