Storm & Doctor Doom Could Be Marvel's Most Shocking Hero Romance of 2025

Storm has had some iconic love interests in her comic book history, but Marvel is once again teasing the possibility of a romance with the villain Doctor Doom. Though the X-Men hero and Fantastic Four villain are usually at odds morally, the two have a surprising dating history, and it seems that opposites could still attract, as they find themselves spending an intimate evening together in Latveria.

The preview for Storm #4 – written by Murewa Ayodele, with art by Lucas Werneck – features a powerless Ororo Munroe traveling to Doom’s homeland the night before her mutant abilities are set to return. Wearing a gorgeous green gown, Storm sits down with Doom for what seems to be a romantic candle-lit dinner date.

As Doom sets his total takeover of the Marvel Universe into motion, he’s requested the company of Earth’s Mightiest Mutant for a reason, though precisely why remains unclear. As Storm gets wined and dined by the villainous mastermind, the publisher’s most shocking relationship could move to the next level.

Ororo and Victor von Doom’s previous dinner dates have only offered a fleeting look at their flirtation, but Marvel is teasing the romantic spark between them once again while both characters are going through exciting changes. While Doom plots his universal domination as the new Sorcerer Supreme, Storm has become the Avengers’ mutant advocate and is embarking on solo adventures in her own ongoing series. At the end of Storm #3, Emperor Doom requests Storm’s presence in Latveria to discuss “mutant matters”, but it seems he might have ulterior motives for organizing their latest meeting.

Storm and Doom’s previous dates have never ended successfully, in both 1981’s Uncanny X-Men #145 and 2021's S.W.O.R.D. #7, but their potential as a couple is a recurring plot point that had to be addressed in this new era. With Ororo finding herself charmed by Victor, and him acknowledging and respecting her status as a mutant goddess, they do have some undeniable chemistry as a pairing. However, with the duo’s next meeting coming right after Storm and Wolverine rekindle their romance with a passionate night in the rain, Ororo’s love life is getting pretty complicated.

2025 Promises To Be A Gamechanging Year For Both Storm & Doctor Doom

Power Couple, or Bitter Rivals?

Storm and Doom’s potential as a commanding power couple is an enticing concept for Marvel to toy with, which is why it has been revisited a few times, but it does seem to be an idea that could never properly play out in the main universe without majorly changing either character’s personality. The solicited synopsis for Storm #4 already teases “a battle Latveria will never forget”, so it’s definitely possible that Doom’s ability to charm Storm has finally run out. Though Ororo finds Victor to be "mostly harmless," his reinvigorated plans for world domination might see them become full-blown enemies.

Ororo obviously doesn’t need any love interest to be considered a powerhouse, but the mutant goddess has some heavy-hitters in her relationship history. Her most iconic partnership is with her ex-husband T’Challa, who she has just joined over in Avengers, and she also still has Forge pining for her in the pages of X-Force. However, it’s still possible for the hero to fully ignite a flame with the most shocking option of them all. As Storm meets with Doctor Doom for their latest dinner date, they could finally find their spark, or discover that their romance stands no chance.
