Stevie Nicks reflects on her 'week with Dolly Parton' as they recorded what would be the country star's final album

Stevie Nicks penned a poignant memorial for her late friend and one-time collaborator Dolly Parton in an Instagram post on Wednesday.

The 78-year-old Fleetwood Mac vocalist looked back on work she did with Parton, who died Tuesday at the age of 80 after a brief cancer battle, on a track titled What Has Rock and Roll Ever Done For You from Parton's 2023 Rockstar album.

'I spent a week with Dolly in Nashville to record one of my songs with her for her "Rock Star" album,' the Phoenix-born singer said, adding it had been the 'best week ever.'

Nicks said that 'a week with Dolly was like a master class' in music for her, as she sought 'to be a sponge' and absorb her fellow icon's knowledge 'in a very few days.'

She added, 'Learning from her was easy because she was a really good teacher. I think she saw me as a really good student; I just tried to listen.'

The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Nicks for further comment on the story.

Nicks said of Parton, 'She said she could become a rock star ~ and I watched her do it.

'When I was there she was not even close to being finished gathering more rock & roll songs that she wanted to sing.'

Nicks shared a handwritten poem she penned as a tribute to Parton in the wake of her passing.

She wrote, 'So, Dolly, Dolly, Dolly ~ Rock and Roll & Country ~ Carry all those songs with you ~ Right up to heaven ~ Sing your songs to all those you meet.

'This will be their blessing ... Dolly, how we’ll miss you ... There’ll never be another you ~ And I will always love you.'

She concluded the letter, 'Love Love Love, Stevie.'

Nicks' post received a flood of reaction from fans and celebs, as Sheryl Crow dubbed Parton and Nicks her 'two heroes' in the replies.

A post from the band Garbage dubbed Parton and Nicks 'Two of the best,' while Dita Von Teese thanked Nicks for her 'personal tribute to Dolly.'

Following their collaboration, Nicks posted a shot of them together in the recording studio that she put up to commemorate Parton's birthday three years ago.

It read, 'Happy birthday to my new friend @DollyParton! Had so much fun singing with you!'

In her what would be her final album, titled Rockstar and released in November of 2023, Parton blended original songs with covers, some of them with the original artists.

They included covers of Every Breath You Take from The Police in a collaboration with Sting; Heart of Glass from Blondie in a duet with Debbie Harry; Heart's Magic Man with vocalist Ann Wilson; and Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me with Elton John.

Parton's representatives released a somber statement amid news of her passing Tuesday, saying, 'After bravely facing a brief battle with cancer, Dolly departed her Earthly life today at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center surrounded by loved ones.'

They noted that Parton 'spent her life and career bringing joy, laughter, hope and integrity into everything she touched,' as 'her unmatched generosity reached the lives of countless people whom she would never meet, yet she was always there to offer a helping hand.

'Whether it be the hundreds of millions of books donated through her invaluable Imagination Library or funding research that helped create a lifesaving vaccine used around the world, Dolly's unconditional love for all people was the guiding force for her lasting impact.'
