Stephen Colbert is happier than ever after winning big at the 2026 Emmys for his late night talk show.

The comedian, 62, gave a sweet shoutout to his wife Evelyn McGee Colbert, 63, during his acceptance speech at the annual Emmy Awards on Monday evening.

This comes nearly four months after the late night CBS show aired its farewell episode back in May following its cancellation by the network which he said was 'tough' to move on from.

When he won Outstanding Variety Series for its final season, he took to the stage and gushed about his wife during his acceptance speech.

He began his speech by addressing the star-studded audience and thanking many of them who have been guests on his show during the 11-year run before concluding his speech by directly thanking his producer wife.

'Thank you so much on the behalf of the over 200 people who threw themselves at this show for 11 years to try to do the best show they possibly could for you,' Colbert said.

He also added that late night television is a 'fantastic incubator for young people to come in to learn to work professionally.'

'There can only be one favorite guest, and that is my wife, Evie McGee,' Colbert said.

'Thank you, darling. Thank you for being my only crew and my only guest during COVID, and my only audience – and the only audience I really care about,' he added.

'Yours is the laugh I want for the rest of my life.'

Colbert and McGee have been married since 1993. The couple share three children: daughter Madeleine, 30, sons Peter, 28, and John, 24.

On the same day, Colbert hinted at his upcoming projects and revealed whether he would be returning to hosting late night talk shows.

'I think the Jimmys have got that locked down for right now,' Colbert said about fellow talk show hosts Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel during an interview with E! News.

He also said since bidding farewell to his show, he has remained hard at work.

'For an unemployed person, I'm very busy,' he said during his red carpet interview.

His wife McGee was also on the red carpet with him and added that she was less tired by how busy he has been but rather of 'him forgetting to tell me things.'

About her husband, who has been working on screenwriting the forthcoming The Lord of the Rings: Shadows of the Past movie, McGee added: 'There's no internet in Middle-earth, my man.'

Colbert scoring the trophy on Monday night marks the Late Show's third Emmy during his run as the host.

Earlier this month, Colbert's late night talk show also scored a number of major wins during night one of the Creative Arts Emmy Awards.

Colbert had hosted the series for 11 years upon replacing his predecessor David Letterman following his retirement in 2015.

The show received nine Emmy nominations for its final season and won big honors at the Creative Arts Emmys, including Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series.

Other programs that had been nominated in the same category included Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Last Week Tonight With John Oliver.

Last year in July, CBS announced the cancellation of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert after a decade of being on the air at the time.

It came just days after his furious rant live on air over the network's parent company Paramount settling a $16 million lawsuit with President Trump.

In a statement, the network said: 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will end its historic run in May 2026 at the end of the broadcast season. We consider Stephen Colbert irreplaceable and will retire the Late Show franchise at that time.

'We are proud that Stephen called CBS home. He and his broadcast will be remembered in the pantheon of greats that graced late night television.'

The network also emphasized that the decision to end the show is 'purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night.

'It is not related in any way to the show's performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount,' the statement further read.

It was also previously claimed that CBS canceled The Late Show With Stephen Colbert because it was losing $40 million a year.

The late night talk show first premiered with Colbert as host back in 2015, and notably won its first Emmy last year.

Before the win, the show had previously garnered a total of 33 Emmy nominations.
