Despite releasing nearly a decade ago at this point, Stardew Valley is the gift that keeps on giving, with plenty of updates, events, and even a potential new game on the horizon. While Stardew Valley is still far from over, the long-awaited sequel fans have been waiting for years might actually be a reality, and it isn't Haunted Chocolatier.

ConcernedApe has already discussed his interest in potentially making Stardew Valley 2, but a recent interview with IGN ahead of its 10th anniversary featured the developer going even further to say, "In fact, I would love to." While Stardew Valley 2 would still be a long way off after the release of Haunted Chocolatier, ConcernedApe has already put a significant amount of thought into what a true Stardew Valley 2 would actually look like.

Will Stardew Valley Ever Get A Sequel?

A Glimmer Of Hope For Indie Fans Everywhere

Even with all the exciting improvements from the 1.7 update, there is a growing possibility that we might actually get a sequel to Stardew Valley at some point down the line. ConcernedApe notes that he and the team would be "excited" to make a sequel, in spite of any potential difficulties. Either way, a follow-up won't happen until "after Haunted Chocolatier comes out", given that it would require his "full attention".

One of the biggest concerns that came up with the direction of Stardew Valley 2 was hesitation over introducing an entirely new cast of characters in a different town. While ConcernedApe likes the idea, he also fears that "people might feel put off" by the idea, and he's considered introducing the same cast to a new adventure instead.

Thankfully, there are more than a few Stardew Valley mods, such as Stardew Valley Expanded, which already show what a true sequel could look like, offering an excellent experience on its own while hopefully giving ConcernedApe an idea of which option he prefers for the eventual sequel.

Haunted Chocolatier Is The Priority

Stardew Valley 2 Isn't Coming Out Anytime Soon

While there are more than a few roadblocks in the way of starting towards an official Stardew Valley 2, one of the biggest is definitely the upcoming release of ConcernedApe's original Haunted Chocolatier project. Although there have been few Haunted Chocolatier development updates since its announcement, he already considers the project to be "like the Stardew Valley 2" he previously envisioned.

Even with the comparisons and excitement surrounding ConcernedApe's next exciting indie project, it's hard to imagine it rivaling the success of the award-winning formula that kept Stardew Valley going strong over the past decade.

Despite the long wait ahead, the confirmation that ConcernedApe isn't close to being done with the Stardew Valley IP is the best news we've heard in years, and the indie developer has confirmed that he still has "plenty of ideas" for what to do with the franchise beyond additional updates in the next ten years.
