'Star Wars: Skeleton Crew' Co-Creators Jon Watts and Chris Ford Want To Answer These Questions in a Second Season

5 hours ago 6

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew may have ended with a resounding defeat of its morally dubious pirates and a return home for its preteen protagonists, but that doesn't mean the story has to end there. Series creators Jon Watts and Christopher Ford discussed the finale's unanswered questions in a recent interview with Collider's Maggie Lovitt. After discussing how they had given the series a definitive and conclusive ending, Ford raised some questions that a potential second season of Skeleton Crew could address, saying, "If you're a fan of the Star Wars galaxy, you have all these questions: What happens to all this money? What happened to Jod?"

The finale, "The Real Good Guys," ended with the planet At Attin, lost for decades, rediscovered by the galaxy at large—and given that the planet houses a fortune of Old Republic credits, future events may make the pirate invasion it just underwent may seem like a spa day on Cloud City. It also leaves the fate of the series' main antagonist, Jod Na Nawood (Jude Law), up in the air.

So, Who Is Jod Na Nawood?

The question of who is Jod Na Nawood was one of the central mysteries of Skeleton Crew. He uses a variety of aliases throughout the series, some pulled from the deepest depths of Star Wars obscurity. What he reveals in the last episode, presuming it was the truth, is that he grew up in extreme poverty, and never had enough to eat. He did possess an affinity for the Force, and was discovered by a Jedi, who began to train him in its use. However, she was discovered by the Empire and murdered by its Jedi-hunters, while Jod was forced to watch. He escaped death and became a pirate, but was abandoned by his crew when he led them on a futile treasure hunt. He soon discovered a greater treasure, however; he came to the aid of a quartet of preteens who'd inadvertently blasted off from the long-lost treasury world of At Attin. Realizing that At Attin housed a fortune, Jod led the kids on a series of adventures before reaching At Attin—which he promptly recruits his former crew to plunder and pillage. In the final scenes of the finale, however, he sees the New Republic shoot down his flagship, but his ultimate fate remains unknown. Was he apprehended by the New Republic, or did he escape to plunder another day?

If there is a second season of Skeleton Crew, we know that it won't take place immediately after the first-season finale. In an interview with Collider's Steve Weintraub, Ford and Watts explained that a hypothetical Season 2 would take its youthful cast's ages into account. "We have a built-in ticking clock of the kids and their age, and by the time we would get production going, we know what age they would be. So, we would be writing towards that. You’ll be growing up with the kids."

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is now streaming in its entirety on Disney+. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.
