Released back in 2024 as the first open-world game set in the Star Wars universe, Star Wars Outlaws saw players take on the role of scoundrel Kay Vess, as she embarks on a mission to gain freedom and start a new life in a galaxy far, far away. Developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft, Star Wars Outlaws was met with mainly positive reviews upon launch. However, since 2024, Ubisoft has revealed that the action-adventure title underperformed expectations and, in more recent months, it has dropped to a 5.6 User Score on Metacritic. So what is the consensus for Star Wars Outlaws?
You Can Still Try Star Wars Outlaws For Free
Custom Image by: Tom WilsonWell, luckily, you can find out for yourself without having to spend a single penny as Star Wars Outlaws offers a free demo across all platforms, allowing you to get stuck into the game and make your mind up for yourself. Providing up to three hours of gameplay as players explore the planet of Tatooine and surrounding areas, the free trial includes the first few story quests, but it is worth noting that progress does not carry over to the full game. However, the question is, is the demo worth it?
That is what one user over on r/StarWarsOutlaws has asked recently, sharing, "Does the demo give an accurate representation of the full game? Is this game worth buying?... I really enjoyed the demo, contemplating getting it on sale. It's visually pleasing, but lacks weapons and combat/gunplay (it's very vanilla). Are there any saving graces/highlights of this game that made you buy it right away, even after the demo?"
With over 30 comments racked up, it is safe to say that fellow Star Wars Outlaws players were ready to share their opinions, with the top comment reading, "I loved it and put 40 hours in without even doing everything... This is a stealth-action-adventure game, it's not a shooter. But if you rushed the story, did the DLC, and then grabbed the outfit set, you can use whatever weapon you want."
Star Wars Outlaws Is Seriously Underrated
Put simply, despite its problems, many fans would consider Star Wars Outlaws to be an underrated gem. Here at Screen Rant, we awarded the first open-world Star Wars game a 4/5 and called it "a stunning depiction of scum and villainy." Our review read: Star Wars Outlaws feels like a new perspective on the Star Wars universe, feeling far grimier as it depicts a world full of scum and villainy. I noticed this from the opening moments in Canto Bight, where Kay goes through dive bars and gambling parlors. While this side had been shown in other media, this was the first time it really felt like we were truly immersed in it."
So, with a free demo up for grabs, it is worth making up your own mind about Star Wars Outlaws and decide, once and for all, if it deserves pride of place in the beloved Star Wars universe.
