James is a gaming writer from London who has spent thousands of hours exploring titles from every genre. Though he has a particular affinity for multiplayer titles like World of Warcraft, Destiny 2 and League of Legends, he has also put thousands of hours into single-player experiences, from deep RPGs to epic PC strategies. When he's not playing or writing, he can usually be found supporting his beloved Brentford FC.

Star Wars Battlefront II might have been a game that attracted controversy due to perceived predatory microtransactions, but underneath all of that nonsense, it really is some of the most fun you can have in a video game that's rooted in the universe George Lucas et Al. created in the 1970s.

That said, as is so often the case with games that rely on multiplayer for the overall experience, the player count has been dwindling, as fans move on to other releases for their competitive kicks. There are signs that the proverbial tide is turning, however, and a new event is coming up that aims to blast the player count into the stratosphere once again.

Over on Twitter/X, the official page for KYBER: Battlefront II Custom Servers shared a post detailing a community-led Battlefront event that aims to build on the successes they have already had getting players into the game.

"STAR WARS Battlefront II's player count is already rising, but we're not finished yet. On May 23rd the Battlefront community invites you to squad up, have fun, and make history. Everyone is invited — no matter where you play," it reads.

It's a really nice idea, and healthy games are good for everyone, so hopefully the community really rallies behind the idea and gets involved. Resurgence Day is designed to be a big day in its own right, but it also marks parties coming to custom servers at the same time, allowing players to really construct the multiplayer Star Wars experience of their dreams, with friends.

The responses were also filled with excitement at the potential of the initiative, with one saying, "May 23rd you say. I will assemble the squad."

"Ah thank the Force! We played today with some mates and loved it, but wished there was a party system in place. Thank you for all your hard work!" another added.

"This game is super dope. If they were to just make the achievements slightly more obtainable I’d play a lot," a third said.

If you were ever a player, or were just yet to commit to give it a go, then May 23 really could be the best time to do so for a long time. The game itself is already very good for fans of both the genre and the franchise, but these new custom tools and the movement to drag more players back into the fold could have Battlefront II in as good a state as it has been in for years and years.
