James is a gaming writer from London who has spent thousands of hours exploring titles from every genre. Though he has a particular affinity for multiplayer titles like World of Warcraft, Destiny 2 and League of Legends, he has also put thousands of hours into single-player experiences, from deep RPGs to epic PC strategies. When he's not playing or writing, he can usually be found supporting his beloved Brentford FC.

Fallout 4 might have been out for over a decade already, but it really is a game that has managed to keep the community hooked throughout. The original and subsequent DLC were ambitious in their own right, offering hundreds of hours of entertainment, but it's fan developers who have really had their say in giving the game the longevity it deserves.

Though it's an understandably controversial system in its own right, by charging players to download mods in some cases, the Creation Club does have a great array of content. It also has the added bonus of allowing individuals or small teams to make a real living producing mods.

One of the more recent of those may have escaped your attention, but it's well worth a go if you're looking for an original story to get stuck into within the Fallout 4 framework.

Fallout 4: Beast Hunter Is Basically Free DLC

Over on the official website for Fallout 4 Creations, you should be able to find the download page for Tale of the Beast Hunter. Available on PC and Xbox, it follows the story of Troy Morton, who traveled from New Vegas to Boston, a journey that would see him secure his legacy as the titular "Beast Hunter".

The full list of features of this mod betrays how ambitious it is, and it was enough to earn an official endorsement from Bethesda themselves to boot:

  • 7-part holotape adventure where you will uncover the legend of the Beast Hunter.
  • New Revolver Shotgun 'Judge' with devastating headshot damage bonuses and choice of 1 of 4 playing cards that have unique gun effects .
  • The Beast Hunter’s outfit comes in two styles. Boldly wear the 'Lucky 38' emblazoned on the back or have it cladded in Deathclaw trophies .
  • Take on the Beast Hunter’s very own pet Deathclaw, Bessy.
  • Own a slice of New Vegas with 'The Bar' player home that feels straight out of the Strip.

The outfit is pictured in the image above, and the jacket genuinely immediately becomes one of the coolest clothing items in the entire game. At the same time, the new player home is unique, and if you were a fan of the overall aesthetic of the game that Obsidian put out, it's nice to see that replicated in higher fidelity here.

The mod has already racked up over 20 million plays on PC and Xbox since launching in November of last year, and that's testament to how well it is going down with the existing fan base.

Fallout 4 Is Still Going Strong

Given that Bethesda isn't likely to give us a new Fallout game until beyond 2030, it really is nice that there are so many talented developers working so hard to keep the latest game relevant. With more downloads releasing all the time, that isn't showing any sign of slowing down, which actually isn't too bad of a position to be in, considering.
