Star Wars alum Jake Lloyd feeling 'pretty good' after hitting 'rock bottom' with mental health struggles

Star Wars alum Jake Lloyd has had a long, bumpy road to recovery since being diagnosed with schizophrenia, at age 19, in 2008 - which caused him to hear voices and act erratically.

It was hard for the 35-year-old former child star to even grasp he had a mental illness because he also suffers from anosognosia, a neurological condition that makes it difficult to understand you have a health problem.

Jake is currently being treated at an outpatient rehabilitation center where he lives after successfully completing an 18-month stay at an inpatient mental health facility in Southern California 'a few weeks ago.'

Lloyd (born Broadbent) had suffered a complete 'full-blown psychotic break' in 2023 stemming from the tragic death of his younger sister Madison, at age 26, in 2018 from natural causes.

Back in 2015, the Colorado-born Indiana native served 10 months behind bars at Colleton County Detention Center in Walterboro, SC for reckless driving, driving without a license, and resisting arrest.

The 'rock bottom' era happened three months after Jake had assaulted his own mother Lisa Riley - knocking her down and stomping on her - but she declined to press charges.

'Jake's actually getting so much better than he was,' Lisa reassured Clayton Sandell last Wednesday.

'It's a big relief for me and the rest of his family. We're all just thrilled that he's doing as well as he is, and that he's working really hard at it. We appreciate that.'

Lloyd added: '[I'm doing] pretty good, considering these [17] years of time that have come to an end. I can now accept taking on continued treatment, and therapy, and my meds. Everyone's been very supportive.'

When the former Pac Sun staffer takes his meds, he feels like he doesn't 'have the time for feeling volatile. It is very much a cushion.'

Jake understands hitting rock bottom was crucial in order to 'honestly take part in treatment, honestly take your meds, and honestly live with your diagnosis.'

Lloyd is 'very appreciative' of the support he's received from fellow Star Wars fans: 'It's immediately therapeutic. Right now, it's still therapeutic. It's helpful for people and healthy. It isn't something I'd shy away from.'

And while the Columbia College drop-out has stopped making public appearances for now, he's excited to play the 2010 video game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II after 'beating the first one.'

Jake even plans on watching a marathon of Star Wars films this year: 'I'm holding out for May the Fourth with my mom.'

Before retiring from acting, at age 12, in 2001 - Lloyd famously portrayed young Anakin Skywalker in George Lucas' dismally-reviewed 1999 prequel Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, which amassed $1.047B at the global box office.

The vape-smoking millennial was honored with the Young Artist Award for best performance in a feature film for the flick also starring Liam Neeson, Natalie Portman, and Ewan McGregor.

Jake also memorably played Arnold Schwarzenegger's onscreen son Jamie Langston in Brian Levant's dismally-reviewed 1996 Christmas comedy Jingle All the Way, which earned $129.8M at the global box office.
