Raelith Is Peter’s Most Fascinating Fling In Decades
The most exciting and interesting that The Amazing Spider-Man has been in a while was when Joe Kelly and Pepe Larraz stranded Peter in outer space, where he met Dr. Xanto Starblood and later became the leader of a batch of aliens and creatures whom Xanto had secretly held captive, including Rocket Raccoon, Symbie, and Raelith of Kailo. The latter was perhaps this arc’s most shocking development, as well as its most welcome, as it has led to a beautiful, emotionally supportive dynamic between her and Peter.
While chiefly platonic, there is a sensuality and playfulness to Peter and Rae that is underscored by respect, loyalty, and curiosity—and ice cream. Their relationship is written tenderly and healthily, but it does unfortunately seem as if they are purposefully being restrained, with the likelihood of them actually becoming a couple being incredibly low.
“I am not in love with you… but I love you, Peter.”
Right now, Rae and Spider-Man’s other space companions are acclimating to Earth’s atmosphere at the Fantastic Four’s Baxter Building while Peter, MJ/Venom, and Eddie Brock/Carnage have been occupied by Torment in Marvel’s Amazing Spider-Man/Venom: Death Spiral event.
Spider-Man’s Love Life Is Up In The Air
It is unknown what will become of Raelith. In the meantime, Peter and MJ do not seem any closer to falling for one another again, despite Amazing Spider-Man legacy issue #1000 creeping its way onto the horizon and most readers’ sneaking suspicions being that they will be together by then. That said, Peter and MJ may not be a great match anymore, at least not in the Earth-616 continuity, and it would take quite a lot for this to be rectified.
Rae is proof that Peter’s love life does not need to be leashed to MJ, Gwen, or Felicia, and that brand-new characters have the potential to be phenomenal love interests if they are written well. In The Amazing Spider-Man’s current status quo, in particular, there is no better partner Peter could ask for, and MJ obviously has enough going on in her own life, as she is bonded to Venom and will be playing a major role in the upcoming Queen in Black event.
Either way, The Amazing Spider-Man will hopefully give Spider-Man’s spectacular space-faring arc proper closure once The Amazing Spider-Man/Venom: Death Spiral has concluded. It would be terrific to see Peter with Rae when all is said and done, though, especially if Marvel never intends to retcon its “One More Day” retcon and give readers the Peter and MJ relationship that it robbed them of nearly 20 years ago.

Spider-Man is the name given to several individuals who have employed a spider-moniker throughout Marvel Comics. Typically gaining their powers through a bite from a radioactive spider, the different Spider-Man heroes employ super-strength, agility, and intellect while utilizing webbing to swing and tangle up their foes. The most notable of these Spider-Men is Peter Parker, who remains one of the most popular superheroes throughout the world.
