Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal has revealed she previously asked the now-married stars Tom Holland and Zendaya not to date.

The couple met when they starred in Spider-Man Homecoming back in 2016, and in March it was revealed they had tied the knot.

Amy has now shared that when Tom and Zendaya were cast as Peter Parker and MJ, she warned them against starting an off-screen romance.

However the pair ignored her advice, leading Amy to joke 'no one ever listens to her'.

She told Variety: 'I say this to all of them, and no one ever listens to me!' before adding that Tom and Zendaya are 'pretty happy together'.

Amy had previously told the BBC: 'Tobey and Kirsten dated, and Andrew and Emma - and MJ and Peter just always fall in love. There's nothing you can do about it.'

During the press tour this week, Tom called Zendaya his 'wife' after confirming they had tied the knot.

Seth Meyers said on Late Night: 'We have something in common, I spent a lot of time in my day watching YouTube, podcasts and Spider-Man content and my wife is less patient about it.

'Because I'm not in the film or connected to it in any way, she feels like it's a waste of time'.

Tom replied: 'Yeah, well my wife is in the film so [that helps].'

In another public display of affection, Zendaya gushed over her husband being her 'best friend'.

She said in an interview with MTV: 'Well, Tom, obviously, my best friend, but being able to do these films with him is a privilege, and I love to be able to grow together and watch him. I mean, he's the best.'

Tom also admitted Zendaya has helped him cope with life in the spotlight because of the sense of 'calm' she brings to his life.

He told Entertainment Tonight: 'I think Zendaya always just brings me an unbelievable sense of calm.

'Even in the midst of all of this craziness and traveling the world and making these movies and sometimes being really overwhelmed – because that's what happens when you're a human being... No one calms me down better than she does.'

Tom steps back into the iconic suit as Peter Parker for the latest instalment Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which has earned rave reviews from critics and fans.

The new film was released in cinemas last week, and earned a record-breaking $355million in its US opening weekend alone.
