Spider-Man: Brand New Day has finally released its first trailer, and it evokes a strong sense of nostalgia for fans of the Spider-Man: The Animated Series show. Tom Holland is finally returning to the MCU for another outing as our Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man after his last appearance five years earlier in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Feels Very Reminiscent Of Spider-Man: The Animated Series
From 1994 to 1997, Spider-Man: The Animated Series was the undisputed best superhero show from Marvel television, and it carried that title for years as the show continued to thrive with reruns and Saturday morning cartoon spots.
While the show was designed for young audiences, it managed to tackle a number of more challenging and mature topics in a way that met the audience at their level, and offered incredible moral stories of hope, love, heroism, and friendship. All of these emotions and ideals are captured in the new Brand New Day trailer, but more than that, the content of the trailer also appears to overlap with the earlier series.
For instance, despite the brevity of the trailer, we are introduced to numerous aspects of the story that are new to the MCU's Spidey, but have been seen frequently in TAS. From Peter's powers malfunctioning and evolving, to a potential new mutant rival, and superhero clashes and team-ups with characters like Frank Castle's Punisher.
Spider-Man: The Animated Series Is One Of The Best Animated Superhero Shows Of All Time
One of the most exciting aspects of Spider-Man: The Animated Series was just how vast the world and stories were in the show. Despite being on the small screen and in an animated format, this show saw dozens of Marvel character crossovers, a deep dive into the Spider-Verse, an exploration of Peter's powers evolving in various ways, and so much more.
Evidently, a lot of the above overlaps with what we have already seen in just a short trailer for Brand New Day, and it inspires hope that this film will take inspiration from one of the most formative and engaging Spider-Man stories ever depicted. And considering the plans for the future of Spider-Man in the MCU, it feels like this trend could continue.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Is Setting Up A Spectacular New Trilogy
Marvel
Spider-Man: Brand New Day may be Tom Holland's fourth outing as the lead in the MCU, but this entry also serves as a new beginning for the hero. In fact, Brand New Day has been confirmed to be the start of a new trilogy for Holland's Spider-Man, which means that despite what appears to be a packed entry in Brand New Day, there should be another two films to further explore the characters and themes introduced in the upcoming film.
If Spider-Man: Brand New Day takes even a little inspiration from Spider-Man: The Animated Series, then fans are in for a wild ride. And personally, as someone who grew up watching the incredible Spider-Man: TAS, I couldn't be more excited to see some of these incredibly innovative and experimental stories make their way to the big screen.
Of course, Spider-Man: Brand New Day and the ensuing MCU Spider-Man movies may move away from the outlandish cartoony adventures of Spider-Man: The Animated Series, but as far as the trailer is concerned, it feels like the stories have been adapted straight from the cartoon in the best way possible.
