Brand New Day has become the 12th Marvel movie to cross the coveted milestone

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has officially crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office, becoming the latest Marvel film to reach the milestone and cementing its status as a massive theatrical hit.

The latest story in the saga of Peter Parker reached the milestone after just six days in theaters, earning $407 million in North America and $645.8 million for a worldwide total of more than $1 billion, according to Variety. The achievement is hardly surprising after Brand New Day stormed into theaters with a record-breaking opening weekend. The film earned $360 million domestically, surpassing Avengers: Endgame to claim the biggest opening weekend in U.S. box office history. And that's before Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to arrive in pricey IMAX theaters, so expect the film's second-weekend box office to do gangbusters business.

The achievement arrives as Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, which stars Tom Holland, nears the $1 billion mark, giving movie theaters two simultaneous billion-dollar juggernauts. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the fourth movie to hit a billion in 2026, joining Toy Story 5, Michael, and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

The success is another reminder that Spider-Man remains one of Marvel's most reliable draws. Spider-Man: No Way Home finished its theatrical run with nearly $2 billion worldwide, while Spider-Man: Far From Home also crossed the billion-dollar mark.

Brand New Day is the 12th Marvel movie to cross $1 billion worldwide. The club is led by Avengers: Endgame at nearly $2.8 billion, followed by Avengers: Infinity War at just over $2 billion, and Spider-Man: No Way Home at $1.93 billion. Before Brand New Day, the most recent Marvel film to reach the milestone was 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, which earned $1.34 billion worldwide.

Polygon's review called Spider-Man: Brand New Day a "grounded, emotional, and expertly crafted addition to the Spidey canon," praising director Destin Daniel Cretton's return to a more street-level Spider-Man story.

The blockbuster's success has already had ripple effects beyond the box office. Following its record-breaking debut, Sony and IMAX announced that Spider-Man: Brand New Day would debut in IMAX theaters across North America beginning Aug. 6 after The Odyssey (also starring Tom Holland) concludes its exclusive run in the premium format.

The movie has also reignited interest in Spider-Man's video game adventures. In the days following the film's release, Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Marvel's Spider-Man 2 all reached their highest concurrent player counts on Steam in more than a year as fans looked for another way to swing through New York City.

Spider-Man won't be enjoying his victory lap for long. Brand New Day is the final Marvel movie before Avengers: Doomsday comes to theaters in December, and the film appears to tee up several story threads that could have major consequences for Peter Parker — and the wider MCU.
