Space Marine 2 announces 2025 PvP maps, Battle Barge additions, and more

15 hours ago 6

As we venture forth into 2025, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 players already have something on the horizon to look forward to in the form of evolutions for PvP game modes and ongoing tweaks to the cooperative PvE experience.

As the community has already seen, the teams behind Space Marine 2 are committed to building the title’s available content up over time. Since launch, the game has already introduced two new PvE Operations, a new weapon, the Lethal difficulty, the introduction of Public Test Servers, and a slew of quality-of-life improvements, including ultrawide support and a sparring arena. Now, the new year will bring some updates to PvP and the Battle Barge, where players reside, alongside the reveal of the next Space Marine Chapter Champion.

A new battleground

In a community update posted at the end of December, the Space Marine 2 teams celebrated the game’s success since launch and looked toward its future. First, they noted, “PVP Players – We have heard you, and we know you feel left out. We will have your back in 2025 with brand new and exciting content for the PvP.”

The first piece is a new map with the promise of more to come. The locale is described as “set in a closed environment with many narrow passages pushing you to engage more in Closed Quartered Battles.” If the image included in the post is representative of the environment, then it appears to be some kind of Necron structure or facility, which likely sets it on Demerium.

The teams promised that custom PvP lobbies would ARRIVE with Patch 7.0, noting, “You will be able to play with modifiers and change the amount of players, up to 6v6 / You can change the timer limit for each match, the maximum limit score / you can have more than two players for each class (and have 6 snipers on your team if you want, even if it’s a questionable strategy!)”

Expanding the Battle Barge

While PvP players may have the most to look forward to, everyone will be able to appreciate another update coming to Space Marine 2 in 2025: an addition to the Battle Barge, the space-bound fortress where the Ultramarines (and players) hang out between Operations and other tasks. Right now, it consists of an Armoury area where Astartes can change equipment, a sparring bay for practice, and a central command center for accepting new missions. In 2025, the Battle Barge is set to receive a new area dedicated to the lore in the Warhammer 40,000 franchise called the Datavault.

“The Datavault will make its entry on the Battle Barge next year. It will consist of a new area with unlockable information on most elements enemies from the game. Unlock them with a special currency earned through in-game achievements,” reads the announcement, suggesting the feature will double as a replayability boost and a narrative element.

A new Champion and more to come

Those who have purchased the Space Marine 2  Season Pass were promised a set of cosmetics representing Champions from various Space Marine Chapters, the first of which featured the Dark Angels for the Bulwark Class. Now, a second Champion has been revealed in the form of the fan-favorite Salamanders Chapter. It will be available for the Sniper Class, though a specific release date has not yet been set.

Commenting on why Salamanders were chosen for the Sniper, Focus and Saber explained, “[First,] His cape is very cool (super important). [Second,] An obvious choice for the Sniper Champion would have been to be a Raven Guard, but we have different plans for them. [And third,] Everyone loves Salamanders, us included, and we really wanted to give them a Champion. Heavy and Tactical would have been good candidates, but Heavy was already taken, and we have a different idea for Tactical.”

If you're giving us a Salamander champion as a sniper, we're going to need a flamer on sniper 🤷‍♂️

The teams also noted that a horde mode would arrive sometime later this year but that more information would come as it gets closer to completion. Additionally, during Season 3, a Prestige Rank system will come to Space Marine 2, adding more Class development options. New Operations and enemies are also in the pipeline, and to supplement the continued content growth, with a new difficulty level and additional rewards also in the works.
