It's been a minute since Sons of Anarchy concluded, but fans’ love for the Kurt Sutter-created series knows no bounds. The crime drama had a huge cultural impact as a modern-day take on a Shakespearean tragedy, with dark themes and gritty action. The Charlie Hunnam-led show keeps resurfacing on streaming lists, proving that neither longtime fans nor newcomers can get enough of the hit series.

The 87% Rotten Tomatoes-rated series follows Jax (Hunnam), who, after discovering a manifesto written by his late father and motorcycle club founder, begins to question himself, his relationships, and the club overall. Over the course of seven seasons, we follow Jax and the biker gang’s evolution, which serves as an allegory for his own human transformation.

So, when the series ended, fans were treated to a spin-off, Mayans MC, which ended after five seasons. But there has always been discussion of a prequel story, as fans have been enchanted by the deep lore and backstory of SAMCRO and the legendary “First 9” members of the biker group. While there were no concrete updates yet, Sutter recently gave a hopeful hint.

Some of the most beloved shows got off to a rough start. Here are eight that either had trouble finding an audience or were axed before they could.

Will There Be a 'Sons of Anarchy' Prequel?

The short answer is yes, but at the right time, as Sutter revealed in a new interview about his long-time friendship with FX Networks Chairman John Landgraf, stating, they “were always friends while I worked with him, but we’ve become really close friends since I left, and that’s been powerful for me,” he revealed. He further affirmed that Landgraf “loves the IP, and I trust John. When I know it’s the right time for it, and it all makes sense, that’s when it’ll happen. When we have lunch, we’ll talk about the business and work, but it’s never about the pursuit of a single project.” The creator further added:

"But look, I think there are still some stories to tell, and it would be fantastic to come back and be able to do that. I don’t think it’s completely off the table, but as things change, you embrace whatever direction you’re taken in.”

The original series ran for seven seasons, doubling down on themes of love, brotherhood, loyalty, betrayal, and redemption. Along with Hunnam’s Jax, the series gave us some credible performances from Katey Sagal, Mark Boone Junior, Tommy Flanagan, Kim Coates, Johnny Lewis, Maggie Siff, Ron Perlman, Ryan Hurst, Theo Rossi, and more.

Meanwhile, Sons of Anarchy is available to stream on Hulu. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
