Paul Farrelly is a Contributing Writer for Screen Rant’s Gaming section and the founder of GeekGasm.org, a site dedicated to celebrating all things gaming, from triple A blockbusters to weird and wonderful indie hits. Based in Louth, Ireland, Paul has spent years writing about games, pop culture, and tech, turning his lifelong love of gaming into a career that lets him talk (probably too much) about what makes this industry so endlessly fascinating.
He’s previously written and collaborated with several entertainment outlets, including LADbible, gaining a wide perspective on how gaming fits into today’s pop culture conversation. His work blends genuine enthusiasm with thoughtful analysis, exploring how design, storytelling, and community have made gaming one of the most creative mediums around.
When he’s not glued to a controller or keyboard, Paul’s usually spinning vinyl, plotting his next horror marathon, or debating which Resident Evil entry really reigns supreme.

When I was growing up and, in many ways, similar to the Sith, we dealt only in absolutes. There were no gray areas. You were expected to choose. On the playground for music, it was either Blur or Oasis. For sci-fi, it was either Star Wars or Star Trek. For wrestling, it was either Hulk Hogan or The Ultimate Warrior. The most important of all those were video game platformers. It was either Sonic the Hedgehog or Super Mario.

While the paunchy plumber had his fans back in the day, there was only one cool choice. Sonic was the king on consoles all the way up until the 64-bit era changed everything. And Sonic Adventure 2 was a rare gem that only lucky Dreamcast owners could experience. Well, not anymore. Thanks to JeliLiam, a Sonic Adventure 2 remake will soon be available to everyone.

A recent trailer on YouTube showcases JeliLiam's hard work on his passion project entitled Sonic Adventure 2 Redux for PC. Using Unreal Engine 5, this crafty developer is hoping to bring the nostalgia of retro gaming to modern hardware so we can all experience a once forgotten game brought back to life. Sonic Adventure 2 launched on the Sega Dreamcast back in 2001 and an enhanced edition was ported to the Nintendo GameCube the following year, firmly cementing the game as a much-sought-after cult classic.

A killer soundtrack, big dramatic storyline and gamer's first introduction to the too cool for school Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic Adventure 2 is beloved by many. Being restricted to GameCube and Dreamcast, however, means many fans have never had the chance to play this fast-paced, stellar 3D adventure. Sonic Adventure 2 Redux for PC might just give old gamers and newcomers alike a chance to get to grips with this high-energy platformer in 2026.

Sonic Adventure 2 Characters (1) Press Kit

Sonic Adventure 2 Redux is well on its way to launch with the developer promising to bring fully finished demos of levels and bosses to our PC screens soon. Seeing a retro classic like this come to life on modern PCs will be a dream come through for oldies like me and for fans of Sonic the Hedgehog in general. Revisiting the story from the Hero and Villian's perspectives and getting to grips with all the playable characters and play styles is something to really look forward to while we wait for new footage from the upcoming Sonic 4 movie.

Sonic Adventure 2 has the best collection of characters in the Sonic franchise, all in one game too for players to gush over. You get to play as all your favorites, including Knuckles, Tails, Eggman, Rouge and the dark and broody Shadow the Hedgehog, to boot. With Sonic Adventure 2's official return causing jaws to drop and the upcoming Sonic 4 movie, not to mention the rumors of more spin-offs and a second season for the Knuckles TV series, there's never been a better time to be a Sonic the Hedgehog fan.
