“Saturday Night Live” poked fun at one of the most anticipated films of the holiday season, the Timothée Chalamet-helmed Bob Dylan biopic, “A Complete Unknown,” out Christmas Day, with a sketch portraying the film’s red-carpet premiere.
Chloe Fineman, as Timothée Chalamet, admitted to having a Brat Summer (a reference to the CharliXCX-inspired trend). “Oh, man it was crazy. Nuts,” exclaimed Fineman as Chalamet.
The fictional Buzzfeed reporter, spotting Bob Dylan (James Austin Johnson), gushed, “Oh, my god. And icon alert! Here comes Mr. Bob Dylan himself.” The reporter then asked Johnson as Dylan if he, too, had had a Brat Summer.
“What?” said Dylan. “A brat summer,” repeated the Buzzfeed reporter, “did you have a brat summer?”
Dylan, with his trademark gravelly voice, misunderstood the question thought he was being asked about bratwurst. “Bob, I love this guy!” said Fineman as Chalamet. “I love you, too, but all this sausage talk has awoken my hunger. I hear there’s a hot bar at the end of this, so if you’ll excuse me.”
Dylan and Chalamet were suddenly joined on the red carpet by Bruce Springsteen. “Baby I was born to watch this movie,” croons the Boss, a nod to his “Born to Run” song. “Wait, Boss, you hit the hot bar?” asked Dylan. And Springsteen retorted, “Sure did, Bob. The vibes might be small but the flavor’s big.”
When Springsteen is asked about his favorite Chalamet film, he says, “I like that ‘Wonka’ picture. I grew up in a chocolate factory town. I ‘member the day they led it down. Pops came home drunk. Mama ran off with an Oompa Loompa. But of course, like all my stories, that’s not true.”
“Uh-oh, here comes rock legend, Bono,” the interviewer says. When asked if he had a Brat Summer, Bono replies, “I didn’t have a Brat Summer. Could not possibly. Because of the sweltering heat brought on by climate change. We must act now.”
Referencing a new holiday Netflix film, Bono adds, “I just saw a documentary about the devastating effects of global warming. It was called, ‘Hot Frosty.’”
“Gladiator II” actor Paul Mescal made his hosting debut in tonight’s episode, with artist Shaboozey as musical guest.
