Intramovies has completed further sales ahead of EFM for the Slovak Oscar entry “Father,” directed by Tereza Nvotová. The film world premiered in the Horizons section at the Venice Film Festival.
The latest sales are to Cultural Life Inc. for Japan, Arti Film for Benelux, Kinova Art for Turkey and Kino Mediteran for Croatia.
Shun Nikaido, president, CulturalLife Inc., said, “’Father’ is a delicate yet multilayered work that blends suspense with deeply human drama, portraying a tragedy that anyone in society could potentially encounter in their everyday life. We are confident that Japanese audiences will be drawn into this family’s story and that the film will give them a chance to reflect on their own unconscious habits, and perhaps even on their lives themselves.”
The film will be distributed in French-speaking Europe by Epicentre, in Greece by Cinobo, in the Baltics by Kino Pavasaris and in Spain by Reverso Films.
In the film, which deals with so-called “Forgotten Child Syndrome,” Milan Ondrík plays a father whose normal day turns into horror.
He’s joined in the cast by Dominika Morávková, Aňa Geislerová and Martina Sľúková.
It won best film at the Zurich Film Festival. At Warsaw Film Festival, the film got a Special Mention for Ondrík. At Camerimage Film Festival the film won best cinematography in the Cinematographers’ Debuts Competition.
At Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, it won the best director award, at Stockholm Film Festival it won best film and best screenplay, and at Les Arcs Film Festival it won best actor.
