Shrinking Season 4 Adds First Major New Cast Member & Sets Harrison Ford Adventure Reunion

The first bit of information has emerged about cast additions for season 4 of Apple TV's popular comedy Shrinking.

Shrinking stars Jason Segel, Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams, Christa Miller, Luke Tennie, Ted McGinley, Lukita Maxwell, and Michael Urie. The series, which follows a therapist moving through grief after the death of his wife, was created by Ted Lasso alums Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein alongside Segel.

Now, Apple TV has confirmed that Karen Gillan will be a new face on the show. Details on her character are under wraps. Co-creator Bill Lawrence confirmed that season 4 will have the same beloved characters, but will begin a "completely new story" and feature a time jump. The storyline will still follow Jimmy (Segel) and Gaby (Williams) in California, while Paul (Ford) continues his battle with Parkinson's and Alice (Maxwell) navigates college on the East Coast.

Gillan is best known for her work on two massive franchises as she has starred as Ruby Roundhouse in Jumanji and Jumanji: The Next Level — with Jumanji: Open World expected to release in December 2026 — and as Nebula in the Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers franchise in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Shrinking won't be Gillan's first foray into comedy as the Scottish actress had the lead role in ABC's short-lived sitcom Selfie in 2014 and did sketch comedy early in her career.

There is no additional information on who Gillan will be playing on the new season of Shrinking, but the longtime actress is no stranger to one of the biggest names on the cast. Gillan and Ford both starred in The Call of the Wild, a 2020 adaptation of Jack London's iconic novel.

Shrinking first aired in 2023, with Lawrence teaming up Segel with fellow Ted Lasso alum Brett Goldstein to create the heartfelt comedy. The first three seasons were praised for being equal parts hilarious and heartbreaking, and the robust supporting cast has contributed to its nine Emmy Award nominations through the first two seasons. Season 3 will fall in the 2026 Emmy Awards window, and nominations are expected for both the show and in several acting categories. The show has been well received, with Shrinking earning a stellar 93% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics.

Fans of the show hopefully won't have to wait too long for the new season as Ford recently confirmed that filming got underway in late May. The Indiana Jones and Star Wars star also let it slip that the upcoming season will have more episodes than last season, sharing that they were planning on 12 episodes. Season 1 clocked in with 10 episodes, with season 2 having 12, and the most recent season capping out at 11.

While there is no set release date for season 4, Shrinking is expected in early 2027 and will stream on Apple TV.
