“The Studio” team of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg took time to pay tribute to their late co-star Catherine O’Hara on Saturday as the pair picked up more awards for their Apple TV series “The Studio.”
O’Hara died Jan. 30 at the age of 71. On “The Studio,” O’Hara played Patty Leigh, a high-powered executive. Th show skewers in the inner-workings of Hollywood. O’Hara earned an Emmy nomination last year for supporting comedy actress for the show’s freshman season.
While accepting the best comedy series kudo at Saturday’s Directors Guild Awards at the Beverly Hilton, Rogen and his longtime writing, directing and producing partner Evan Goldberg reflected on what it meant to have O’Hara take part in their audacious series that was crowned best comedy at the Emmy Awards last September.
Rogen and Goldberg called O’Hara “our idol since we were children.” Both were big fans of her work in the 1990 smash “Home Alone,” and that made for some amusing moments during the filming of Season 1 of “The Studio.” They shared a story about working with her on the set of “The Studio.”
” ‘Home Alone’ honestly is like the movie that made me wanna make movies in a lot of ways,” Rogen explained to the starry room. “In that movie she’s always yelling ‘Kevin, Kevin,’ and on set she would always be yelling, ‘Evan, Evan,’ and every time she did it we were like, It’s like ‘Home Alone.’ “
O’Hara was a beloved figure in comedy, in part because of her reputation for being a great colleague on a movie or TV set. Her presence alone made the pair want to make “The Studio” a worthy effort for their esteemed co-star.
“The best part of her is she showed that you can be an utter genius and also the nicest person in the entire world,” Rogen said. “Every day we work very hard to make the show good enough to warrant her time and her presence. So ultimately we would like to thank the DGA for this, but we would mostly like to thank Catherine O’Hara.”
