Scarlett Johansson's stinging one word response to Colin Jost's 'dumb purchase'

Scarlett Johansson wasn't exactly thrilled upon discovering her third husband Colin Jost decided to purchase the decommissioned John F. Kennedy Staten Island Ferry four years ago with a group of investors for $280,100.

'I texted Scarlett, like, "Guess what? We own a ferry now,"' the 43-year-old SNL star revealed in a teaser for the May 4 SmartLess podcast.

'And she was like, "We?"'

Jost fully admitted he and his former castmate and fellow Staten Islander - Pete Davidson - were 'very stoned' when they won the January 19, 2022 auction with business partners Paul Italia and Ron Castellano.

The Grymes Hill native used to take that exact 63-year-old JFK ferry to attend Regis High School on Manhattan's Upper East Side as a teenager, so when it was up for auction he texted the 32-year-old comedian, who was 'the wrong person to text with when you have an idea like this.'

'I was like, "Should we buy this?"' Jost recalled.

'[Davidson replied] "F*** yeah, we've got to do this!"'

However, the two-time Emmy winner balked at the idea of it being 'sort of crazy money pit' as they already earned their money back after 'doing some events' like hosting Tommy Hilfiger's SS/25 ready-to-wear runway presentation.

'I was thinking in a real estate way, if you put it somewhere, it's 70,000 square feet,' Jost said.

'So I was like, "If you put that on a dock in Manhattan, you've suddenly got basically a building on the waterfront."'

The former lifeguard envisions the future of the ferry as sort of a middle-class swim club with an entertainment space as well as annual winter cruises to Miami, but extensive renovations will have to take place first if they want to open it by 2028.

'It's going to be fine!' Jost reassured.

'Is this a good financial sign where you're like, "It's fine!?"'

The Peabody Award winner might feel better about his investment but, last year, he appeared in a SNL sketch set on a ferry where he desperately pleaded with a passenger: 'You said you love ferries? If you love ferries, would you like to buy one? Please buy it!'

A few months earlier, Jost and his 41-year-old wife appeared on TODAY with Jenna & Friends where she joked: 'All I can say is if anybody out there would like to start a GoFundMe for the Staten Island Ferry, please be my guest.

'I don’t know if I'm speaking for the Staten Island Ferry or against it, but help our family. This has now become a telethon for Support the Staten Island Ferry,' Johansson added.

The Lorne star clapped back: 'All I'll say is I hope you have a good, thick pair of gloves at home because someday you're going to be getting paper cuts from all the checks that start rolling in from this ferry.'

This, after Jost told People in 2024 that it was 'absolutely the dumbest and least thought-through purchase I've ever made in my life.'

The married couple of five years are proud parents of four-year-old son Cosmo, and she welcomed 11-year-old daughter Rose during her two-year marriage to second ex-husband Romain Dauriac, whom she divorced in 2017.

Jost currently serves as co-head writer and actor in season 51 of NBC sketch show Saturday Night Live, which returns this week with Olivia Rodrigo pulling double duty as host and musical guest.

The Bad Guys 2 actor hosts the second season of Michael Davies' game show Pop Culture Jeopardy!, which will stream on Netflix every weekday night from May 11 until June 5.

Jost has a mystery acting role in Eric Appel's marriage comedy The Breadwinner - hitting US theaters May 29 - alongside Nate Bargatze, Mandy Moore and Will Forte.

The Harvard University grad will also executive produce and star as dentist-turned-drug lord Larry Lavin in a seventies-set Peacock drama series in development, which is based on Audacy's 2022 true-crime podcast Wolves Among Us.

Meanwhile, the two-time Oscar nominee has been hard at work playing a rookie detective on the New York set of Mike Flanagan's untitled Exorcist film, which is already scheduled to be released by Universal Pictures on March 12, 2027.

The seventh installment of the supernatural horror franchise will also feature Diane Lane, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Laurence Fishburne, John Leguizamo, Hamish Linklater and Carla Gugino.

Johansson will likely attend the world premiere of James Gray's mafia drama Paper Tiger - in which she plays Esther Graff - during the Cannes Film Festival in France running May 12-23.

The Eleanor the Great director will soon begin filming her role as Harvey Dent's (Sebastian Stan) wife Gilda in Matt Reeves' sequel The Batman: Part II alongside Robert Pattinson, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell.
