As you likely already know, times are tough if you’re looking to upgrade your PC, as AI is using any memory it can get its hands on, increasing prices of RAM, storage, and video cards to unheard of levels. Jumping to a DDR5-based system may just not be in the budget. To combat the problem and get a worthwhile upgrade, Newegg is offering a great deal on an AM4 combo that includes a Ryzen 7 5800XT, 32GB of Corsair DDR4 RAM, and an Asus ROG Strix B550-F motherboard for only $408.44 (33% off, $206 savings). It may not be the fastest system available, but it’s a notable improvement over previous generations, can hold you over until this madness ends, and is upgradable in the meantime.
The bundle starts with the capable Ryzen 7 5800XT, an 8-core/16-thread Zen 3-based processor for the AM4 socket. The 5800XT is a refresh for the platform launching in July of 2024. The updated chip runs up to 4.8 GHz (up from 4.7 GHz on the 5800X) while maintaining the same TDP of 105W. The mid-range CPU is not only easy to cool but also plenty fast for productivity or gaming. You won’t see as many FPS as the X3D chips, but you’re also not paying a premium for it, and you can upgrade processors to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D if you’re a gamer, or a Ryzen 9 5950XT (16c/32t) if you mainly use the system for productivity.
Asus’ ROG Strix B550-F Gaming Wi-Fi II motherboard is a solid base for your AM4 system. We actually reviewed this motherboard (the first version), and it earned ⅘ stars. We liked the premium audio solution, Wi-Fi 6, and 2.5 GbE (dual 2.5 GbE on the Wifi II), two M.2 sockets (PCIe 4.0 x4), and six SATA ports for storage, but didn’t like the price point at the time. The rear IO has eight total USB ports, including the modern Type-C (2x 10 Gbps, Type-C and Type-A, 4x 5 Gbps Type-A, 2x 480 Mbps Type-A). The VRMs are capable and easily handle any compatible processor, so upgrading down the road won’t be a concern. It also looks good, too, in all-black with the ROG symbol lit up by RGB lighting.

Last but certainly not least is the Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB DDR4-3200 C16 RAM. The two sticks are low profile (34mm height) and should fit under most air coolers. DDR4-3200 is a middling speed for the platform, but it won’t slow down your gaming or productivity. 32GB of RAM is, arguably, the sweet spot of capacity these days, as 16GB can be limiting, and 48-64GB (or more) is often overkill for most users, so to have that amount and not worry is priceless.
Newegg’s bundle deal of $408.44 ($206.99 off / 33%) essentially drops the RAM's price to $56, pre-AI-apocalypse pricing or lower, and a great deal. The board and RAM are still at reasonable price points for their ilk and time existing in the market, and together are one of the most discounted combo deals currently available for the AM4 platform. Oh, and you get a free air duster, too.
