Sarah Michelle Gellar paid tribute to Michelle Trachtenberg on February 26, one year after her death.
The Buffy the Vampire Slayer star remembered not only working with her on the supernatural series but on the ABC drama All My Children.
“I’m not sure how it’s been a year. I’m one of the lucky ones who has over 30 years of memories with you,” Gellar wrote in an Instagram post dedicated to Trachtenberg. “From our first day on set together, to less than a year later, when you were already taller than me.”
She continued, “But I first worked with on All My Children. I watched you become a star with Harriet. You were great to my kids. Countless kids bdays you attended even though I’m sure you had somewhere cooler to be. But most of all, when I think of you, that smile that took up your entire face and brought so much joy to others is what comes to mind. You may not have been with us long enough, but we will make sure everyone remembers.”
Trachtenberg was found unresponsive in her midtown Manhattan apartment on February 26, 2025. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene, and no foul play was suspected. She was 39.
Following a review of laboratory test results, it was determined that Trachtenberg died naturally as a result of complications from diabetes mellitus, the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner told Deadline in a statement.
Trachtenberg joined Buffy the Vampire Slayer in 2000, during the show’s fifth season, playing Dawn Summers, the younger sister of Gellar’s Buffy.
