When Cyberpunk 2077 first launched back in 2020, few could have predicted just how monumental an experience it would become. After a disastrous arrival, developer CD Projekt Red deserves credit for sticking with the game and updating it repeatedly, to the point where it's now comfortably one of the best RPGs of the last decade or more.
The release of the Phantom Liberty DLC only further solidified that legacy, and it showed that there is plenty more potential to tell stories in the world they created for the game. Unfortunately, it seems like that might not be a reality any time soon, if new revelations from the proverbial horse's mouth are to be believed.
It's The End Of An Era Cyberpunk 2077
As first reported by Eurogamer, the developer responded directly to a fan asking about the potential arrival of future DLCs, and it isn't good news.
"We have no plans for additional DLCs or expansions," the developer stated. "If anything changes, we will inform you all!"
These questions have arisen because of the increasingly loud rumors around the potential release of a new story DLC for The Witcher 3, over ten years after that game originally launched. It will supposedly bridge the narrative gap between that game and the upcoming sequel, which is set to have a new protagonist for the first time, in Ciri.
Though that game is undoubtedly the developer's focus right now, with over 400 staff members working on it by the developers own count back in October 2025, that doesn't mean new and very secret Cyberpunk goodies couldn't also be on their radar.
Can We Really Believe CD Projekt RED?
The big piece of evidence that CD Projekt Red may well be telling the truth this time around is that they are very much also working on the direct sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 right now, with 96 developers producing that, again according to the same count published by the studio in October last year.
Given that there isn't a need to bridge a narrative gap in the same way that The Witcher 4 requires, it would make sense if they were just putting all their eggs in the sequel basket from here on out.
Whilst it would be disappointing to not get any Cyberpunk 2077 releases moving forward, if it does mean we get our hands on the entirely new sequel sooner, then that's significant consolation and a sacrifice that many would be willing to make.
