Starfield is getting a brand-new type of creature soon, thanks to an ambitious mod. Dune - Project Arrakis is a mod that aims to transform the planet McClure III into the desert planet Arrakis from Frank Herbert's Dune universe. The mod wants to do more than just some cosmetic upgrades, focusing instead on completely overhauling the Starfield planet.

Once all the bugs are ironed out, the mod will pit players against the giant enemies, who will have the ability to chase the player and burrow under the sand. Sandworms on Arrakis in Dune are known to be attracted by rhythmic sounds, swallowing anything caught on open sand in worm territory.

Starfield Mod Will Scratch The Itch For Players Waiting For Dune: Awakening

Arrakis Arrives Early For Starfield Mod Players

 Awakening

Dune - Project Arrakis is a labor of love by a solo creator who hopes to completely transform the Starfield planet into Arrakis. It can be downloaded from questionthis' Nexus Mods page. In its current state, the mod changes McClure III into a hot, desert planet with occasional sandstorms. Players can harvest Spice, discover caves and caverns, and explore a landscape that recreates the planet of Arrakis from the Dune franchise. Future updates will bring more Dune-inspired content, including player homes, crafting and mining upgrades, handmade points of interest like settlements, as well as more new skills, factions, NPCs, and even quests.

Mods from Nexus Mods are only available to Starfield players on PC; those on Xbox only have access to the more limited selection of Bethesda-curated mods, Creations.

The mod should help fans while away the time until the next official Dune title comes out. Dune: Awakening is an open-world survival MMO set on the planet Arrakis. It's currently being developed by Funcom and has a release window of early 2025. The upcoming Dune game is already garnering comparisons to Starfield since both feature customizable ships, planet exploration, and more. It's even possible that Starfield was originally going to include large sandworm-like enemies, according to an official pre-release image shared on Reddit by According_Common_923 and several other fans. Unlike Starfield, though, the upcoming Dune game will be multiplayer, giving players a chance to explore the franchise's planet with other fans.

The Starfield mod comes at a great time for fans of Dune, since there's still quite a wait until the next Dune title launches. Until Dune: Awakening comes out in 2025, fans can get their Dune fix from the Starfield mod.
