Sam Thompson reveals he ignored ex Zara McDermott's warnings and gave Love Island's Ekin-Su flowers when they were still together

Sam Thompson has revealed he was 'obsessed' with Love Island star Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and brought her flowers when they first met. 

Going against the advice of his then-girlfriend Zara McDermott, who he dated for five years before splitting last year, the Made In Chelsea star presented Ekin-Su with the gift at the London launch night of her Oh Polly collection in 2022. 

Speaking to Pete Wicks on their podcast Staying Relevant, an incredulous Sam admitted his fixation with Ekin-Su and her Love Island boyfriend and fellow victor Davide Sanclimenti, who was present when they met. 

After Pete prompted: 'You bought her flowers', he explained: 'I was like obsessed with Ekin Su - And not in like a sexual way. I had a girlfriend.'

He explained that Ekin-Su's PR invited him to the bash, leading to his plan to bring the gift - which fellow Love Island star Zara begged him to ditch. 

Sam went on: 'I said to my girlfriend at the time I said like we should probably go...

'Even my girlfriend at the time went you're not bringing flowers I went "No they need to know that we like them" and I remember - this is so bad - I remember standing um she's getting photos taken and I've got her flowers like by my chest... 

'I'm standing next to my girlfriend waiting for her to finish her like photo round with like the fans and then l went "Hi these are for you just want to say congratulations and good luck with all your endeavors"...

'I gave her the flowers, I went "this is Zara by the way" and Zara then said "see you later" and we literally just left I went all the way gave her flowers'. 

At the time of the party, Sam took to Instagram to share a duo of snaps - showing him with the couple, including an image showing him smelling Davide's neck.  

Ekin-Su and Davide won the eighth series of Love Island in 2022 after she entered as a bombshell on day three, during which Sam would frequently comment on Instagram while he watched alongside series four star Zara. 

Sam is now dating Talitha Balinska while Zara is loved up with Louis Tomlinson.

Sam confirmed his relationship with influencer Talitha, 25, in early December. He revealed in February that he told Talitha he's 'in love' with her while they were sat on the sofa together, telling his friend Pete he'd 'known for a bit'.

Earlier this year, he revealed how he feels about Louis.

Zara confirmed her relationship with the former One Direction singer last year, going Instagram official with him after weeks of speculation.

He was asked by a radio listener after he Sam invited listeners to ask him anything, and listener Holly wasted no time in asking Sam a brutal question live on air, leaving him speechless.

Holly asked: 'How do you feel about playing the song from One Direction, Steal My Girl, knowing that one of the 1D boys did actually steal your girl?'

After several seconds of dead air as Sam tried to recover, he said: 'Holly, I am live on air! How do I feel? First of all, and I mean this when I say it, it's a brilliant song. I still listen to it on the tube.

He continued: 'I know that sounds weird, but I listen to it on the tube all the time. I don't actually feel weird about it because I feel quite happy as long as everyone else is happy.

'I think everyone has found their person, and I think that's really, really nice. And I've actually met said guy, and he seems like a really nice dude, so I feel pretty good about it, to be fair. And it is an absolute banger. Everyone is looking for love, you know.'
