Ryan Gosling detailed how his and Eva Mendes’ daughters gave “very honest” feedback about his movie Project Hail Mary—and how they inspired him to make it.
Ryan Gosling Gives Eva Mendes Sweet Shoutout in Hilarious 'Jeopardy!' Clip
Ryan Gosling didn’t need a Hail Mary to get constructive feedback on his new movie.
After all, he had plenty of help in his own home. The Notebook star revealed that his and Eva Mendes’ daughters Esmeralda, 11, and Amada, 9, had plenty of suggestions for his latest film Project Hail Mary.
“My kids have seen multiple cuts,” Ryan said in an Feb. 26 interview with Access Hollywood. “They give me multiple notes. They’re basically the only critics I care about, and they are very critical and very honest.” For Ryan—who began his relationship with Eva in 2011—having his daughters’ opinion is “always better.” What’s more? His girls inspired him to make the sci-fi/adventure film in the first place.
“I made this for them essentially,” he shared. “As a family, I’d like a movie like this that I’d like to see. I just feel really honored that I got to make one.”
For her part, Eva had her own notes about the film—which sees Ryan playing a teacher who wakes up on a space station with no memory of how he got there—specifically her longtime loves’ onscreen dynamic with CGI costar Rocky. In fact, the Hitch star quipped Rocky (voiced by James Ortiz) is the only costar of Ryan’s she’s ever been “jealous of.
“They spent wayyy too much time together,” she wrote in the comments of a Feb. 8 Instagram post promoting the film out March 20. They even got each others rings. WTF!!?”

For Ryan, his leading lady’s concerns about his bond with Rocky aren’t that far out.
“I think she’s jealous of him because she loves him too,” Ryan told Access. “She knows how lovable he is. He’s such a loveable character. People love Rocky so much, the fans of the book are so protective of how we handled this. That it was beautiful.”
“I’m so excited for the world to get to meet Rocky,” he added. “And get to have him in their life because it’s been such a joy to have him for the last five years.”
Ryan had Eva top of mind as he recently promoted Project Hail Mary. While playing a fake round of Jeopardy! in a promo clip for the film, host Ken Jennings quizzed Ryan and the two other contestants in the final Jeopardy round with a clue that read "This specific type of injury has made the news at least since 1967 when it happened to Red Sox star Jim Lonborg."
After one contestant answered “ACL" correctly, the Barbie star flashed his board with his response that read, "What is... IDK?,” with a sweet nod to Eva adding, "I [heart] Eva."
