Netflix‘s basketball comedy series Running Point is back for a second season. The third episode of the new installment, released on April 23, carries an end card that reads “In Loving Memory of #6 Niko Mijailovic.”

It is a tribute to a Los Angeles boy who died a year ago in a tragic accident as he was being picked up from school. He was 15 at the time, finishing eighth grade at the elite private Campbell Hall and a star varsity volleyball player for the school wearing a #6 jersey.

During Mijailovic’s memorial service, it was mentioned that the last thing the family watched together was Season 1 of Running Point.

Friends of Mijailovic’s family are connected to the show, which is how the Running Point producers heard the story and were touched by it, I hear. With the blessing of the boy’s family, the series ran the end card in his honor.

Written and executive produced by Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz and showrunner David Stassen, Running Point stars Kate Hudson as Isla Gordon who is appointed president of the Los Angeles Waves, one of the most storied professional basketball franchises, and her family business when a scandal forces her brother to resign. Ambitious and often overlooked, Isla will have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job.

In addition to Hudson, its main cast includes Justin Theroux, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Brenda Song, Fabrizio Guido, Chet Hanks, Toby Sandeman and Uche Agada. Warner Bros. TV is the studio.
