Rosie O'Donnell opens up on her dramatic weight loss after shedding 12lbs in three weeks using Mounjaro

Rosie O'Donnell has admitted that when she first started taking weight-loss drug Mounjaro, she called her doctor in tears over fears for her health.

The comedian has shed 65lb over the past three years after being prescribed the drug to help with her type 2 diabetes, which she was diagnosed with in 2022.

Rosie, 64, has said though that her doctors didn't explain to her that Mounjaro causes weight loss, meaning she was shocked when she dropped 12lb in the first three weeks of taking the drug.

Speaking on Amy Poehler's Good Hang podcast, the star admitted that she has 'never felt better and it's sad to me that it took me till I was 64 to get here'.

She explained how three years ago her doctors told her about Mounjaro 'before it was really in the news that much'. 

'So they said, "You have diabetes. Can you take a shot?" I said, "I think so. I don't know. I've never done a shot. Is it insulin?[I knew about that] because of my uncles and stuff. And they said, "No, it's this new drug and it really helps with your blood sugar." Never mentioned weight loss.'

'Never said anything because it was my numbers they were trying to get down.'

She explained how she took her first dose and then went out to celeb-favourite restaurant Nobu to celebrate her son's engagement where she discovered 'I can't eat anything.'

'I think to myself, I'm so overwhelmed emotionally by missing my mom and wishing she could have seen and known him and that he got engaged and a brand new start in his life. And I was full of emotion and so I thought that's what it was.'

'Cut to two weeks later, I get on the scale. I call my doctor crying. I must have cancer.'

'I've lost 12 pounds and I haven't done anything. It's been three weeks since I started that medicine.' 

Rosie explained that prior to taking the drug and despite years of dieting and weight loss fads 'I had never lost weight for no reason.'

'Even when I tried to lose weight, it was hard for me to lose weight.'

Rosie went on to champion the weight loss drug, passionately declaring that 'this drug is going to help so many people if they could only stop being greedy b**tards and give it to the people who need it at a price that is affordable for everyone'.

'It's a sin to have science come so far to help cure obesity.'

Rosie has been careful with her use of the drug over the past three years, gradually building up to the next dose so as not to feel 'overwhelmed' by quick weight loss and to combat any side effects. 

She also underwent a $90,000 lower deep-plane facelift in January to combat the sagging skin around her neck and lower face.

Rosie, who relocated to Ireland last year, recently wrapped her one-woman show in New York and next up will guest host a week of episodes of Jimmy Kimmel Live later this month.
