The Avengers are gearing up for their return to the big screen, with Marvel's most prominent team of heroes taking on an eerily familiar face in Avengers: Doomsday. The fifth Avengers movie is currently set to hit theaters this December (we'll see if that sticks) and it stars franchise face Robert Downey Jr. as the villainous Doctor Doom — a far cry from beloved hero Tony Stark. Downey has been the centerpiece of everything Doomsday leading up to its release, from a Comic-Con surprise announcement to the reveal of the official cast. This weekend, Downey posted some fun, Easter-themed art to help tease the arrival of Doomsday, and it looks as though that art included some big casting hints.
Sunday morning saw Downey share an illustration of Doom holding a basket of Easter eggs, all of them painted with the logos of various Marvel heroes or teams. Logos like the ones belonging to the Fantastic 4, X-Men, and New Avengers weren't all that surprising, given that the confirmed Avengers: Doomsday cast has long included heroes from those teams. There are also eggs for other confirmed characters like Thor, Black Panther, Loki, Shang-Chi, and Ant-Man. One egg sticks out like a sore thumb, though, seemingly teasing the inclusion of Spider-Man in the film.
Spider-Man in 'Avengers: Doomsday'
One of the eggs featured on the right side of Doom's basket shows a spray-painted Spider-Man logo. Given that just about every other egg in the basket includes a logo of a character or team that Marvel has already announced is going to be a part of the movie, it stands to reason that Spider-Man's egg wouldn't be included in the photo if he wasn't also going to be there.
Realistically, Peter Parker being in the MCU's biggest movie since Spider-Man: No Way Home feels like a foregone conclusion. Why wouldn't your most popular character be in your massive team-up movie, especially when that movie is coming out just a few months after Spider-Man: Brand New Day? Nobody should be surprised to see Spidey appear in Doomsday, but the art from Downey's post raises an interesting question: Which Spider-Man is going to be in the movie?
Is Andrew Garfield Returning to the MCU?

The Spider-Man logo on Doom's egg is not the same logo that we've seen on Tom Holland's suits throughout the MCU to this point. That logo was small and compact, a stark difference from the thin, incredibly long logo that donned Andrew Garfield's suit in The Amazing Spider-Man. In fact, the logo featured on the egg looks more like Garfield's Spider-Man suit than any other we've seen in a live-action movie.
Adding fuel to that fire is the fact that Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars will be hopping all throughout the multiverse. The cast of Doomsday already includes a ton of "legacy" Marvel stars from the original X-Men films. With Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and other X-Men stars appearing in the film, it wouldn't be out of place to see a non-Holland Spider-Man pop up at some point. Garfield's return seems inevitable, even if it's just for a cameo in one of the next Avengers films — but that doesn't necessarily mean the egg is referring to his Spider-Man.

It's worth noting that, while the art on the egg most closely resembles Garfield's logo, the new Spider-Man suit that Holland will wear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day has a new insignia for this edition of the hero. Holland's upcoming logo is very similar to Garfield's, stretching down the suit rather than staying small on his chest. The egg could be a representation of the new MCU Spider-Man style, which we won't see on-screen (outside a trailer) until the summer.
Of course, this could also just be a case of some fun, holiday-themed art that doesn't actually have any connection to the movie at all. Maybe the Spider-Man logo was included by accident, or maybe it doesn't mean a thing at all and was only in there because he's a massively popular superhero. We'll likely get a much clearer answer over the next few months, as Disney really kicks off its marketing campaign for Avengers: Doomsday.
