Lili Reinhart on Tuesday opened up about a shocking case of online abuse she received via Elon Musk's social media site X, leading her to leave the platform.
The 29-year-old Riverdale star told her 24 million Instagram followers that a one-time government worker said he hoped she would be sexually assaulted over her political views.
The Cleveland-born actress said the threatening communications came after she publicly said she was voting for Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, against Republican candidate president Donald Trump.
Reinhart told her followers she 'stopped using X in 2024 when men were sending me messages about how I deserved to be r*ped for voting for Kamala' Harris, noting that 'one of them was a former government worker.'
Daily Mail has reached out to reps for Reinhart for further comment on the story.
The Hal & Harper star touched on the topic as she shared a post from the account Feminist about Musk's AI chatbot Grok, which has been at the center of controversy over nefarious ways in which it can be used.

The bus stop ad showed an image of Musk, 54, with the text: 'Who the f*** would want to use social media with a built-in child abuse tool?'
It urged users to 'delete your X account,' leading the actress, who has appeared in films such as Hustlers and Chemical Hearts, to share her recollection of when she ceased using the platform.
Reinhart had been vocal in her opposition to Trump following his victory over Harris in November of 2024, citing the multiple accusations of sexual assault Trump has faced over the past decade.
'I cannot fathom the feeling of the women who came forward about their sexual assault at the hands of Trump,' Reinhart said on X at the time. 'Seeing millions of people vote for their abuser.
'My heart absolutely breaks for these women. I believe you, and I am so sorry.'
Reinhart visited the White House under former President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris in October of 2024, during the stretch run of the 2024 election season, to commemorate World Mental Health Day.
The White House said at the time, 'On World Mental Health Day and every day, the Biden-Harris Administration is grateful for the courageous Americans, like Lili Reinhart, who are helping end the stigmatization of mental health.
'To anyone struggling with their mental health – you are not alone. We’re committed to providing you with the support you need to heal, recover, and thrive.'

Reinhart at the time gave her thoughts on what elected officials need to do to help Americans maintain their mental health in a clip to commemorate the occasion.
'Destigmatizing mental health will help people share more and when you share you feel less alone,' Reinhart said in a clip from the White House.
Reinhart added, 'I think it's very important to remove the idea of shame behind how we feel.
'I know growing up I felt embarrassed and ashamed of my feelings, and I didn't understand them. I was afraid of crying because I didn't know how to explain why I was crying.'
Reinhart said, 'To continue this conversation and remove the stigma around shame and the idea that we need to hide because we don't feel well - that's something that we should fight for.'
'I am also here to advocate for more mental health resources for those in need - feeling mentally unwell does not equal crazy.'
Reinhart said it was 'so normal' to have feeling of anxiety, ADD, OCD, intrusive thoughts and depression.

'We're just human, so let's just be human,' she said.
Reinhart is one of a number of celebrities who has departed the popular social media platform, formerly known as Twitter, since Musk took over more than three years ago.
Supermodel Gigi Hadid was one of the first to depart in November 2022, noting she had 'deactivated' her account.
'For a long time, but especially with its new leadership, it's becoming more and more of a cesspool of hate & bigotry, and its not a place I want to be a part of,' Hadid said.
