Riley Green needed stitches after he was struck in the ear by a phone thrown by a fan in the crowd while he was onstage in concert on Saturday at Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne, Australia.

The 37-year-old singer-songwriter took to Instagram Stories on Sunday with an image of the aftermath of the dangerous incident.

Green, who needed multiple stitches amid his recovery from the head injury, captioned a photo of his injury, '5 stitches later ... sewed up.'

The Jacksonville, Alabama-born artist was seen in the immediate moments after the phone made contact with his ear, as a steady stream of blood trickled down his neck.

Green, who has 2.9 million followers on Instagram under the handle @rileyduckman, was assisted by multiple associates in the wake of the hazardous happening, which led the concert to temporarily stop.

Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Green for further comment on the story.

After being struck, The Worst Way vocalist handed his guitar to an associate and called for the lights to come on, requesting security throw out the fan who threw the phone at him.

Green was calm following the incident, as he laughed while collecting himself to continue on with the show.

'Damn, am I bleeding? See how tough I am?' he said as he surveyed his injuries, thanking fans for attending that night.

The Don't Mind If I Do singer continued with the concert, telling fans, 'You can get your phones out, and you can turn the flashlight on - but don't throw them at me.'

Green concluded the concert with the track Dixieland Delight with his supporting artists joining him for the performance.

The Change My Mind artist had been performing the second of a pair of sellout dates at the venue, on the Australian leg of his Cowboy As It Gets tour.

Green is due to perform over the next two days in Australia, with dates on March 16 and 17 at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney. He's slated to begin performing on the North American leg of his tour next month.

Green released his album Don’t Mind If I Do on October 18, 2024, which garnered him his first solo number one hit last year with the track Worst Way.

He was presented with Single of the Year honors at the 2025 Academy of Country Music Awards for You Look Like You Love Me, a duet with Ella Langley.

Other musical artists who have been hit by projectiles thrown by fans while onstage include Cardi B, Bebe Rexha, Drake, Harry Styles, Zach Bryan and Kelsea Ballerini.

Rexha sported significant injuries after she was hit by a phone during a June 2023 concert in Manhattan. Her eyebrow was split open, and she needed stitches in the wake of the incident.

Bryan in November of 2024 was performing at the Tacoma Dome when an object had been thrown on stage, and hit one of the entertainers. Bryan asked concertgoers in the audience to identify who had thrown the projectile.
