One of the biggest choices you'll need to make in Resident Evil Requiem is near the start. With a limited amount of supplies and weaponry, players will need to manage Grace's inventory early on before they pick up some game-changing upgrades to conquer the game's toughest challenges.
The earliest opportunity to upgrade Grace is in the parlor, where you'll spend your antique coins on bonus items. Here's what you should buy first.
Warning: Spoilers present for Resident Evil Requiem.
All RE9 Parlor Upgrades, Ranked
Choose Carefully At The Start
At the main lobby of the hospital, you'll want to head out of the safe room that has the typewriter, and turn left. Head into the west wing doorway, turn left, and walk down the hallway until you see a door on your right.
That's the parlor. Enter it, and look for the glass cases on the left. Here, you'll spend your antique coins that are scattered around the first area of the game to gain access to huge upgrades, all of which are permanently applied to Grace like an RPG.
Here are all the upgrades you can choose from and their cost:
- Hip Pouch: Allows you to carry more items (three coins)
- Stabilizer: Improves gun handling and increases firepower (four coins)
- Override Manual: Increases the blood collector's capacity by 50 (six coins)
- Steroids: Increases max health (four coins)
We recommend picking up the Hip Pouch first. Every single item (including antique coins) needs to be carried on your person. That includes key items (like literal keys), ammo, weaponry, and accessories. You'll want to expand your inventory space as soon as possible for several reasons.
Next, focus on your biggest shortcoming. Do you die a lot? You will want to pick up the steroids. Do you have issues killing enemies? The stabilizer can help with that. The override manual is also useful and should be picked up at some point before you move on to the next area.
In general, we recommend the following order of acquisition
- Hip Pouch
- Steroids
- Stabilizer
- Override Manual
Steroids will help you stay alive longer, especially early in the game when ammo and firepower are scarce. It's more useful to live longer and make it further in the game than it is to power up your sparing firearm use at this point.
The stabilizer can subsequently help later on in the game once you've built up your arsenal. The override manual, while incredibly useful in the long term, won't see a ton of use in the early game, as you don't have the crafting recipes that necessarily require tons of blood to craft.
There Are Plenty Of Antique Coins To Go Around
You'll Have The Chance To Buy Everything
Don't stress too much when choosing the item you like in the parlor. There are tons of antique coins to go around, and I collected enough in the first area to get every upgrade. You'll eventually get them all, but the order may impact how smooth your run is.
Resident Evil Requiem still manages to nail a lot of the tension of older games through a lack of supplies for Grace, and the parlor plays into that.
