As many Resident Evil fans know, as soon as the game is over, it's immediately time for another playthrough. Capcom has incentivized this sort of behavior over the years, and Resident Evil Requiem also thrives on it.
But what exactly carries over when you opt for a New Game+ run? Let's break it down.
Warning: Spoilers present for Resident Evil Requiem.
What Carries Over In RE9 New Game+?
Special Content Is Key
After clearing Resident Evil 9, you'll unlock some additional CP currency (completion points), as the game boots you back to the main menu screen. Here, you can enter the "special content" menu option, where you can buy equipment and weapons that will carry over in subsequent playthroughs.
What Carries Over For Grace In New Game+?
In other words, your standard equipment will not carry over, and you'll have to earn those key items again throughout your next playthrough. This is especially important for Grace, who doesn't have access to a lot of weapons at the start of the campaign. However, you can use completion points to set yourself up for success.
All items that you buy can be picked up from the item box in-game. You will reach your first one with Grace in the Guard Office, after entering the Care Center and completing the first hallway puzzle/chase sequence with the large monster.
What Carries Over For Leon In New Game+?
Interestingly, Leon has been impacted by NG+ the most. After you complete your first playthrough, you can get and tune your equipment from the very start of the game. So soon, in fact, that you can access a supply box right at the start of the campaign in the city street sequence.
This allows you to buy better gear right away in the story, and supply boxes are present in every area of the game. It's a massive upgrade for Leon, making the earlier sequences much more action-packed. Of course, special content items can be picked up here, too.
Special Content Items Are Important For Playthroughs
Grab A Few For Grace
What you decide to spend your completion points on is up to you, but we strongly recommend investing heavily in special content for Grace, especially on your second run. The Kotetsu is a really important item, as it's a knife that never breaks. You can free up inventory space for other items without having to carry breakable knives constantly, like on the first run through of the campaign.
The Matsuoka Master Manual is also a really great item to pick up, as it increases the maximum capacity of the blood collector, allowing more enhanced crafting recipes. It's a game-changer for New Game+ runs, especially since all the blood deposits reset. This stacks with the manual from the parlor earlier in the game.
Leon, on the other hand, can take care of himself and has access to a small arsenal even at the start of the campaign. However, you can still pick up a number of different weapons for him, including:
- Ghost Grudge
- Redemption
- Clatter Carbine
- Mortal Edge
- RPG-7
If you're so inclined, Resident Evil Requiem offers costumes for CP that are purely cosmetic. For folks who are hardened veterans of the series and didn't have much trouble, you can just go all-out on those instead of specific upgrades.
If you had any issues on your first run in Resident Evil Requiem, with Grace or Leon, respectively, you'll want to buy one or two special content items for that hero. It'll help you a ton when you attempt to take on the horrors of the Care Center and Raccoon City all over again.
