Lee D’Amato is a writer born, raised, and based in Queens, New York. With collective thousands of hours in games like Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Elden Ring, and The Legend of Zelda, he's now writes game features, guides, and reviews for Screen Rant, but has covered a wide range of topics, including ancient history, affordable travel, and overall health.
Some fans are convinced a Resident Evil voice actor's social media post could contain a hint to Capcom's next remake. With Resident Evil Requiem now out of the way, putting a pretty bow on the Leon Kennedy wing of the saga, what's next for the franchise is unclear. Many have surmised that Capcom will follow the original game with another remake of a classic Resident Evil, as it's often done.
But which game will it be? Well, a recent post on X (formerly Twitter) by the remakes' Albert Wesker voice actor Craig Burnatowski. Although it doesn't explicitly reveal anything, his signoff, "Soon the sun will set on the age of men," seems convinced some fans that Wesker could play a big role in the next remake.
Resident Evil's Next Remake Looks Guaranteed To Be...
Code: Veronica? RE5? Something else?
Theories about the next Resident Evil remake abound, but perhaps the most common and most demanded candidate is Code: Veronica. If Burnatowski's Tweet really is to be interpreted as a "tease" for the future of the franchise, then this would only make sense. Wesker plays a significant role in Code: Veronica, so it'd be fitting for his voice actor to wax poetic about being "part of the franchise" ahead of another major release that features him prominently.
This seems to align with recently leaked information about the future of Resident Evil, which suggests that a Code: Veronica remake is up next in 2027, with a Resident Evil Zero remake to follow in 2028, then the next mainline game in 2029.
But note that Code: Veronica is not the only as-yet-un-remade Resident Evil game to include Wesker. Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil 5 both feature the iconic villain, and both of these are arguably equally likely candidates for remaking.
Resident Evil Fans Have Been Waiting For This One
Code: Veronica is a fan favorite
Although Code: Veronica is available on at least one modern platform (PS5), countless fans have called for it to get the remake treatment. First released in 2001 for the Dreamcast, then re-released in an updated version on Dreamcast and PS2, it's often considered "the real Resident Evil 3," for the way it expands on the characters and lore of the first two titles, with the actual third mainline game sometimes feeling like more of a spinoff.
Indeed, a Reddit thread dissecting Burnatowski's Tweet seems laser-focused on the possibility of a Code: Veronica remake, which many fans seem to have accepted as a given. "I think we'll be seeing a lot of Wesker and his budget clones, given the lineup of Remakes and Requiem DLC in the works. Dude is employed as hell."
Still, I'd take the Tweet with a grain of salt. While it can be interpreted as a tease, it may also just comprise a few words of gratitude. Burnatowski is responding here to another post celebrating the anniversary of the Resident Evil 4 remake; that's the mystery game he auditioned for in 2022. And he's still involved in the franchise, whether or not he's gearing up to play Wesker again; Burnatowski also plays Zeno in Resident Evil Requiem.
So while it might not be advisable to get your hopes up, all signs point to a Code: Veronica remake coming soon. We'll see what Capcom announces about the future of Resident Evil in the coming days.
