Resident Evil Zero isn't usually seen as the high point of the series by fans, but it's a solid release well worth playing if you're a fan of the franchise and working through the games. As such, it was little surprise when rumors emerged of an upcoming remake, though there are still plenty of questions about what the final product will be like.
In fact, we haven't yet received confirmation from the developer about the project, though there's pretty good evidence it's been in production since 2023. Now, with more rumors emerging all the time, fans have started to come together to debate what they would like to see.
A Resident Evil 0 Remake Is Only A Matter Of Time
CapcomOver on Reddit, a Resident Evil fan shared every reported piece of information about the Zero remake. As mentioned earlier, production began on the project in 2023, with casting for new lead actors taking place in 2024.
It was originally scheduled for 2024, but when Capcom took over development from M2, the game underwent significant retooling, pushing the release date back to 2028. As with previous remakes, the final game will also include extra content, including the addition of a conductor in the iconic train section.
Gamers Think It Could Be Next After Requiem
CapcomDespite the supposed 2028 release, many in the comments feel the remake could be the next arrival down the production line, after the headline act, Resident Evil Requiem.
"My question is: how are we learning so much about 0 when CV (Code Veronica) is supposedly next after Requiem," one comment reads. Others think that they will stick to launching Code Veronica first, though, regardless of what they do, Resident Evil fans will be eating very well for the next few years if everything turns out to be true.
"RE9 - 2026. RE:CV - 2027. RE:0 - 2028. RE10 - 2029/2030. Sounds about right. But as for RE:1 and RE:5, if you believe Dusk, they haven't been greenlit and every 5 years Capcom has a meeting where they cancel, update and greenlight projects," another comment predicted.
Though Resident Evil Zero won't necessarily be the remake that players are most excited about, the flaws of the original actually make it a prime target for improvement. Let's hope they make the right additions to turn it into the game it should have been the first time around.
