Red Dead Redemption 2 might get most of the attention these days, but the game that started it all really does deserve its flowers. It was a major upgrade on the game that it serves as a spiritual successor to, Red Dead Revolver, and John Marston is arguably one of the most iconic lead characters in gaming.
That reputation is well-earned, and if you still haven't played it through from start to finish, it really does feel like one of those bucket list games that everyone should complete at least once. Happily, PlayStation players may have a way to do so at no extra cost, but that's about to change very soon indeed.
If you weren't already aware, the original Red Dead Redemption is currently available to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers. The sad news is that, as first reported by PlayStation Lifestyle, it's also one of the games set to leave the service next month, with the expected date of its departure on June 16.
That said, a month is a long time in video games, and it's more than enough time for you to play through the game and even get that juicy platinum trophy, if you really push things to the limit. Don't get me wrong, it's definitely a big game, but it pales in comparison to the scope of the follow-up release.
In even worse news, Red Dead Redemption is joined by four other games at the time of writing, all of which will be removed from PS Plus in June. The full list is as follows:
- Red Dead Redemption
- We Love Katamari Reroll + Royal Reverie
- LEGO The Incredibles
- Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game – Complete Edition
- Lawn Mowing Simulator
It's worth noting that this information has been taking from the Japanese version of the PlayStation Store, so there is a chance it could vary a little, though historically it hasn't done so too often. The other thing to note is that more games could be added to this list between now and the middle of June, but let's hope not.
Sony has already confirmed the additions to the PlayStation Plus Essentials catalogue for May, and they're all available to download at no extra cost right now. There are some great options, with the full range of games available as follows:
Essentials
- EA Sports FC 26
- Wuchang: Fallen Feathers
- Nine Sols
- Star Wars Outlaws (PS5)
- Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4)
- Bramble: The Mountain King (PS5, PS4)
- The Thaumaturge (PS5)
- Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn (PS5)
- Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars Reforged (PS5, PS4)
- Enotria: The Last Song (PS5)
Premium
- Time Crisis (PS1)
So at the very least, we don't have to be too upset with Red Dead Redemption leaving, with all of that now available to enjoy before it does.
