James is a gaming writer from London who has spent thousands of hours exploring titles from every genre. Though he has a particular affinity for multiplayer titles like World of Warcraft, Destiny 2 and League of Legends, he has also put thousands of hours into single-player experiences, from deep RPGs to epic PC strategies. When he's not playing or writing, he can usually be found supporting his beloved Brentford FC.
Red Dead Redemption 2 was released all the way back in 2018, but players keep returning to its remarkable setting in their thousands, as Rockstar's Western epic continues to provide an amazing and deep experience for those willing to give it a chance.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Gamers Are Loving This Duel Mode
Rockstar Games/Nexus Mods: Duels RDR2
Over on Nexus Mods, you can find the download page for Duels RDR2, which, as the name may suggest, allows players to rock up and challenge any pedestrians to a duel, in true time-honored cowboy style.
To get it working after you've downloaded the mod, you simply need to approach a pedestrian that you would like to fight and select the antagonize option, following which you will be given a new option to challenge them to a duel. After getting in position, it's all about who is the quickest on the draw, and you can quickly get on building up your legend as the fastest gunslinger in the region.
The dueling experience is actually surprisingly deep, with the full list of changes the mod makes as follows:
Cinematic duel camera with dramatic buildup.
PEDs can accept, decline, or flee based on their personality.
Toggle Dead Eye on/off for those who want a raw quickdraw experience.
One-shot kill mode for both the player and the opponent.
Optional honor loss protection during duels.
Challenge lawmen if you're feeling bold.
Horse auto-flees when too close to the duel.
Duel outcome subtitles — On-screen text now appears for all duel outcomes.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Modders Keep Delivering The Goods
Rockstar Games
The Red Dead Redemption 2 modern community continues to bring amazing new projects to the fan base all the time, and they have given the game an immense longevity far beyond what it would have had naturally. Whether you're looking for saddle quality of life improvements or massive overhauls and DLC-sized quest lines, they have more often than not got you covered.
It's a good thing too, given that Rockstar has all of their eggs in the GTA VI basket, and we likely won't be getting Red Dead Redemption 3 for some time to come yet.
